{"id":551663,"date":"2026-01-29T13:43:16","date_gmt":"2026-01-29T13:43:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/551663\/"},"modified":"2026-01-29T13:43:16","modified_gmt":"2026-01-29T13:43:16","slug":"san-antonios-transportation-department-seeks-input-for-areas-near-planned-green-line-stations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/551663\/","title":{"rendered":"San Antonio\u2019s Transportation Department seeks input for areas near planned Green Line stations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><strong>SAN ANTONIO<\/strong> \u2013 San Antonio\u2019s Transportation Department wants to hear from residents living near and around four forthcoming transit stations along the VIA Metropolitan Transit Authority\u2019s planned Green Line route.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The Green Line, one of two planned advanced rapid transit (ART) corridors in the city, will run from the San Antonio International Airport to the Missions. City and VIA Metropolitan Transit officials <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2025\/06\/13\/via-to-break-ground-on-rapid-green-line\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><b>broke ground<\/b><\/a> on the project last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The department is conducting a market assessment survey to explore how the ART investment could help support and connect the neighborhoods along the route, according to an SASpeakUp page.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Four portions of the ART line are identified in the survey for feedback:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>Cesar Chavez to Steves Ave: Transit Station. The area encompasses much of Southtown and part of Roosevelt Avenue past Interstate 10.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>Cypress Transit Station: The area covers a portion of the San Pedro Avenue corridor just past San Antonio College.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>North Star Transit Station: The area covers San Pedro Avenue as it crosses underneath Loop 410 near North Star Mall. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>Olmos Transit Station: The area coves a portion of San Pedro Avenue between the Olmos Park and Edison neighborhoods.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">While VIA is handling the corridor\u2019s creation, the Transportation Department is handling walkability and connectivity leading to the transit stations, said Joe Conger, a Transportation Department spokesperson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Construction on the eight-phase route is expected to be completed by 2028, according to VIA. The entire Green Line corridor would have 25 stations, Manjairi Akalkotkar, VIA\u2019s Major Capital Program officer, said in November.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Conger said the survey was being co-led with the city\u2019s Economic Development Department \u201cto align development strategies with community priorities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Results from the survey, which runs through the end of March, will be used to shape future policy tools and programs, he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Final recommendations are expected to be completed sometime in April.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">While the study will not affect zoning or land use codes, it will allow exploration of the types of homes, businesses and public spaces that are possible along the route and near the transit stations. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The infrastructure possibilities explored in the survey cover much of what falls under the \u201chalf-mile radius\u201d conversation, the distance between a station and a nearby development within the radius.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The phrase often comes up in discussions of larger transit-oriented development (TOD) projects.
