After two years of working to improve public accommodations<\/a> for nonverbal people, she was among a gallery of unsung heroes from across Tarrant County honored as part of the Fort Worth Report\u2019s 52 Faces of Community.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cThis makes me feel seen, especially in Tarrant County,\u201d Frank said.\u00a0<\/p>\n Frank was one of three awarded $1,000 to further her commitment to bringing a voice to a voiceless community.\u00a0<\/p>\n The other recipients were Jeremy Drake<\/a> for his work in tracking grave plots in the Historic Lake Como Cemetery and Samantha Steves<\/a> for founding God\u2019s Own Children Ministry and Mass at St. Michael Catholic Church in Bedford, which offers community to those with disabilities.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n JPS Foundation President Leah King said the incredible efforts made by the 52 honorees were \u201cnot leadership training, it\u2019s courage.\u201d That\u2019s what drives ordinary residents to take responsibility for the needs of their communities, she added.\u00a0<\/p>\n Fort Worth police officer Autumn Branham and pup Echo were among the honorees. Echo and Branham work in the Critical Incident Response Team where the Labrador retriever\u2019s main job is to provide comfort to officers and residents experiencing a crisis.\u00a0<\/p>\n Exposure like this is vital to the public\u2019s reception of police dogs, Branham said.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cHonestly, a lot of people don\u2019t know that we exist,\u201d Branham said. \u201cWhenever we deploy, it\u2019s someone\u2019s worst day. And so it takes a little bit for their guards to get down to know she\u2019s here to help you.\u201d<\/p>\n Echo\u2019s recognition will help residents be more receptive to the team\u2019s work going forward. \u201cShe\u2019s here to do good,\u201d Branham said.\u00a0<\/p>\n Eddie Trevino saw the event as validation of a commitment to diligent work that the 52 honorees share. Trevino\u2019s fianc\u00e9e, Doricelys \u201cDoris\u201d Martinez<\/a>, was among them.<\/p>\n \u201cShe\u2019s always volunteering, doing a lot of work for a lot of people,\u201d Trevino said. \u201cSo it\u2019s nice to see other people recognizing her for all the hard work that she\u2019s been doing.\u201d<\/p>\n Frank knows she\u2019s not done with Elliott\u2019s Voice, a project to get communication boards that have pictures of objects and feelings in public places so her autistic son and others who are voiceless can communicate.<\/p>\n \u201cWe got two other playgrounds and a garden, and that will be my next year project,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m trying to get all of Fort Worth ISD to have communication boards on their playgrounds.\u201d<\/p>\n Austin Jourde, general manager of Central Market Fort Worth, said the recognition is especially important because the unsung heroes never ask for this kind of praise.
