Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) blasted New York City mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani<\/a> Thursday as \u201cnot even a Democrat,\u201d and said he doesn\u2019t agree with \u201cvirtually any\u201d of his politics.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything that I\u2019ve read on him, I don\u2019t really agree with virtually any of it, politically,\u201d the swing-state senator<\/a> told Fox News<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s just where I\u2019m at as a Democrat. He\u2019s not even a Democrat, honestly,\u201d Fetterman said of the socialist Queens assemblyman<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Fetterman argued that Mamdani\u2019s victory in last month\u2019s Democratic mayoral primary doesn\u2019t mean Democratic voters are nationwide are shifting to the left. Bloomberg via Getty Images<\/p>\n

Mamdani\u2019s stunning upset in New York\u2019s Democratic mayoral primary, in which he defeated former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, was \u201cChristmas in July for the GOP,\u201d Fetterman argued.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201c[It] provided an opportunity for the GOP to brand our party,\u201d the Pennsylvania Democrat said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

On the campaign trail, Mamdani proposed<\/a> eliminating fares on city buses, making CUNY tuition-free, rent freezes and providing taxpayer-funded child care and grocery stores.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, Fetterman argued that Mamdani\u2019s primary win is \u201cnot an accurate reflection of the electorate.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s definitely not Pennsylvania. It\u2019s not Wisconsin. It\u2019s not Nevada. If you look at any of the battleground states, New York City has no actual relevance to the kinds of states and the kind of races which determine that in 2028,\u201d Fetterman argued.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mamdani, a self-described Democratic socialist, defeated former Gov. Andrew Cuomo in last month\u2019s Democratic primary. William Miller<\/p>\n

Mamdani is a \u201cgift to the Republicans,\u201d Fetterman said. <\/p>\n

\u201cIs it going to be useful for attack campaigns? Absolutely,\u201d the senator continued. \u201cHe\u2019s a gift to the Republicans in that way, but there\u2019s no lessons to be learned.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no special kind of insight. For New York City, politically, that\u2019s a circus mirror of the reality of politics and the politics of our country.\u201d<\/p>\n

The currently crowded general election field<\/a> could see Mamdani square off against independent former federal prosecutor Jim Walden, incumbent Mayor Eric Adams, who is also running as an independent as well as former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo. <\/p>\n
