The New York Yankees<\/a> and Paul Goldschmidt haven’t figured out his free agency yet.<\/p>\n

But they’re still trying to line something up, and the latest updates are positive.<\/p>\n

The New York Post’s Jon Heyman reported<\/a> this on Thursday:<\/p>\n

“Paul Goldschmidt seems willing to return to the Yankees, even as something less than a full-time player. The Yankees are over the top tax threshold now, so they\u2019d have to squeeze Goldy into the payroll.\u00a0Goldschmidt makes sense since the Yankees still\u00a0aren\u2019t sold on Jasson Dom\u00ednguez\u00a0batting right-handed and Goldy is better defensively at 1B than Ben Rice.”<\/p>\n

Goldschmidt seems willing to be just the short-side platoon guy that plays first base against left-handed pitching.<\/p>\n

If he’s really willing to do that, the Yanks should go after him.<\/p>\n

Goldschmidt played for the Yankees in 2025 for the first time. He turned 38 years old in September.<\/p>\n

Goldschmidt is a seven-time All Star and a former MVP.<\/p>\n

In his career, he’s a .288 hitter with an .884 OPS and 372 home runs.<\/p>\n

Goldschmidt signed with the Yankees on a one-year, $12.5 million deal before the 2025 season.<\/p>\n

For the Yanks, Goldy batted .274 with a .731 OPS. Just against lefties, though, his OPS was .981.<\/p>\n

That’ll definitely work if the Yankees could get production like that out of Goldy one more time.<\/p>\n
