{"id":55597,"date":"2025-07-11T01:40:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-11T01:40:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/55597\/"},"modified":"2025-07-11T01:40:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-11T01:40:09","slug":"breanna-stewart-says-days-off-much-needed-as-liberty-head-into-all-star-break","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/55597\/","title":{"rendered":"Breanna Stewart says days off much needed as Liberty head into all-star break"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/05\/sports\/breanna-stewart-ready-for-spicy-labor-talks-with-league\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Breanna Stewart is thankful<\/a> for the days off.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She knows how rare they will be as the Liberty\u2019s season continues.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The third-place team in the WNBA stands at 13-6 and has four days off in between its <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/08\/sports\/sabrina-ionescus-big-night-carries-liberty-to-win-over-aces\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">87-78 win over the Aces<\/a> on Tuesday and a Sunday matinee against the Dream.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>An all-star for the seventh time in her career, this will be Stewart\u2019s last chance to catch a breath. <\/p>\n<p>Rather than resting during the July 18-19 all-star break, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/08\/sports\/wnba-all-star-draft-splits-liberty-pair-and-sees-stunning-coach-swap\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Stewart will be playing<\/a> on Napheesa Collier\u2019s team under coach Cheryl Reeve.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, Stewart took time to hand out meals and wellness goods, as well as sign autographs, for Brooklyn residents affected by food insecurity at St. John\u2019s Bread &amp; Life.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIncredible,\u201d Stewart said when asked how the break has felt.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Breanna Stewart smiles during the Liberty\u2019s win over the Aces on July 8, 2025 at Barclays Center. NBAE via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Has she needed the time off? \u201cYeah, yeah,\u201d she said, nodding insistently.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe days off have been great,\u201d she added. \u201cI feel like we\u2019ve really been in a tough stretch ever since Leo [Leonie Fiebich] and JJ [Jonquel Jones] were first out. Corey Sipkin for the NY POST<\/p>\n<p>The Liberty had a four-day break last month as well, but it involved travel back from Washington. <\/p>\n<p>Following the All-Star break, the Liberty\u2019s schedule in the new 44-game season has two back-to-backs and anywhere from three to four games a week for the remainder of the regular season, which concludes Sept. 11.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/21\/sports\/libertys-breanna-stewart-has-mixed-feelings-about-seattle-return\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Stewart is soaking in<\/a> the extra rest at home.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think we have another break like this for the rest of the season,\u201d she said. \u201cI think our stretch is pretty wild \u2014 end of July into August. People are motivated to be better and that\u2019s the good part.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Liberty have taken a skid following their franchise-record 9-0 start, losing six of their past 10 games.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>They lost Jones to an aggravated ankle injury that has sidelined her for 10 games, and Fiebich missed seven games to compete in the Eurobasket for Germany and returned in early July. <\/p>\n<p>They also were without Isabelle Harrison (knee) and Natasha Cloud (hip) on Tuesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Breanna Stewart dribbles up court during the Liberty\u2019s victory over the Sparks on July 3, 2025 at Barclays Center. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>While <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/07\/sports\/isabelle-harrisons-balky-knee-a-liberty-injury-concern-they-can-ill-afford\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">weathering injuries amid<\/a> a tight but lengthy schedule has proved to be a challenge, only more will be expected of the reigning champions in their fight for back-to-back titles as the new best-of-seven WNBA Finals series potentially awaits.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we are paying attention to [during this break] is just defense, making sure we are all on the same page,\u201d Stewart said. \u201cIf we\u2019re going to have different lineups based on who\u2019s available, just building that chemistry in practice knowing that everything has to be sharp because we\u2019re limited [in] roster size. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHopefully, that\u2019ll change by Tuesday, I don\u2019t know. But just making sure we put a conscious effort to be where we are right this second. Heather Khalifa for the NY Post<\/p>\n<p>Nearly halfway through her third year with the Liberty, Stewart is clearly thankful to serve in the Brooklyn community. <\/p>\n<p>Standing at the window of a food truck, she greeted fans in an apron while passing out meals and happily taking photos.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEver since I came here, I really wanted to be making an impact in the community,\u201d she said. \u201cEspecially, you see the games now, it\u2019s like 17 to 18,000 people cheering for us. The community really putting on for us and supporting us. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to have that same feeling throughout the season but also in the offseason.
