A gas explosion has rocked a popular holiday destination, injuring five people, including two young children.<\/p>\n

Emergency services were called about 7.30am on Saturday after a barbecue explosion at the BIG4 Ingenia Holidays park at Lake Conjola on the NSW South Coast.<\/p>\n

Multiple paramedic units responded to the explosion and an ambulance rescue helicopter was sent to treat the injured.<\/p>\n

The circumstances leading up to the blast are now being investigated by SafeWork NSW.<\/p>\n

One eyewitness described the terrifying moment the explosion occurred.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was sitting on the balcony and it was just a huge explosion,\u201d the witness said.<\/p>\n

The witness said a holidaying family had been preparing breakfast on the barbecues when the blast happened.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt looks like they\u2019ve got probably gone to start it. There been a gas leak and it\u2019s just blown up.\u201d<\/p>\n

Immediately afterwards, holidaygoers rushed to the aid of the family.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll I could see was a woman and a guy, and the guy was holding the kid with a big group of people trying to calm the kid down,\u201d the eyewitness said.<\/p>\n

Another holiday maker said she heard the \u201cLoudest bang and then children screaming\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone was like \u2018what was that?\u2019 We headed up to the pool area to see what had happened that\u2019s when I saw a family being comforted.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe barbecue was obliterated. On the table you could still see there butter and things planned for breakfast.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat looked to be the parents of one of the injured children was trying to calm one down. The ambulance crew was quick. It\u2019s a pretty isolated spot but they got here in good time.\u201d<\/p>\n

NSW Ambulance have confirmed that five people were treated on the scene for injuries.<\/p>\n

A man in his 30s was flown to Wollongong Hospital for facial injuries and is in a stable condition.<\/p>\n

Three of the injured were taken to Shoalhaven Memorial Hospital, including a woman and two children under the age of five.<\/p>\n

The woman, who is in her 30s, is being treated for abdominal injuries and is in a stable condition, while the two children are being treated for minor injuries.<\/p>\n

The barbecue area was reduced to rubble from the explosion, with damage to the neighbouring pool area as well.<\/p>\n

Among the rubble, baby wipes, children\u2019s toys, food and cooking utensils can be seen.<\/p>\n

Some social media users have raised concerns about the barbecue area.<\/p>\n

SafeWork NSW confirmed on Saturday afternoon that inspectors are on site.<\/p>\n

\u201cSafeWork NSW inspectors are on site in response. SafeWork NSW\u2019s enquiries are ongoing,\u201d a SafeWork NSW spokeperson said.<\/p>\n
