{"id":556672,"date":"2026-01-31T16:42:11","date_gmt":"2026-01-31T16:42:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/556672\/"},"modified":"2026-01-31T16:42:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-31T16:42:11","slug":"dave-ramsey-warns-of-common-social-security-move-that-will-never-work-for-you-how-special-401k-can-get-you-free-cash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/556672\/","title":{"rendered":"Dave Ramsey warns of common Social Security move that will never work for you &#038; how special 401k can get you free cash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DAVE Ramsey has warned Americans of a common Social Security move that will never work \u2013 and how 401k plans could get many free cash.<\/p>\n<p>It comes amid the biggest retirement surge in history \u2013 with more than four million Americans turning 65 between 2024 and 2027.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSign up for the Money newsletter\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThank you!\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Money Expert Dave Ramsey has warned Americans of a common Social Security moveCredit: Getty<\/p>\n<p>He gave advice to retiring Americans looking to pocket more cashCredit: Getty<\/p>\n<p>Over 11,000 Americans are reaching retirement age \u2013 a phenomenon being dubbed \u201cPeak 65\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>And as many look towards retirement at a time of limited nationwide resources, experts are weighing in on how to make the most of your own finances.<\/p>\n<p>Bestselling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-sun.com\/topic\/money\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">money<\/a> author Dave Ramsey has issued a stark warning for Americans planning to rely heavily on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-sun.com\/topic\/social-security\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Social Security<\/a> during retirement.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cSocial Security will replace a chunk of the income you made throughout your career based on your lifetime earnings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a class=\"article-readmore__text-anchor-wrap\" href=\"https:\/\/www.the-sun.com\/money\/12268478\/poor-mindset-debt-house-payments-dave-ramsey\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"240\" width=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/SC-Dave-Ramsey-Comp-copy.jpg\"\/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-readmore__text-kicker\">HELPING HAND<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-readmore__text-headline\">My &#8216;poor mindset&#8217; got me into $50k of debt &#8211; but an expert says to side hustle<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a class=\"article-readmore__text-anchor-wrap\" href=\"https:\/\/www.the-sun.com\/money\/11171389\/dave-ramsey-best-business-model\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"240\" width=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/LD_DAVE-RAMSEY-BUSINESS_COMP_V02.jpg\"\/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-readmore__text-kicker\">BRAVE DAVE<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-readmore__text-headline\">Dave Ramsey reveals why now is &#8216;a great time to be in business&#8217; for Americans<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to the Social Security Administration (SSA), in January 2026 the estimated average monthly Social Security retirement benefit is $2,071.<\/p>\n<p>The expert added: \u201cNo matter how you slice it, that\u2019s not a lot to live on (even with cost-of-living adjustments every year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmong the elderly, 12% of men and 15% of women rely on Social Security for 90% or more of their income.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFolks, these payments were always meant to replace some of your income in retirement \u2013 not all of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Giving out a key bit of advice, Ramsey urged Americans to make use of their 401k plans.<\/p>\n<p>He strongly advised workers to take advantage of employer-sponsored 401(k) plans \u2013 if your company offers one. <\/p>\n<p>Explaining the difference between the two main types of plans, he outlined the traditional 401k as well as the Roth 401k.<\/p>\n<p>The former lets any American save for retirement using pre-tax cash.<\/p>\n<p>The taxes will then be owed later on, both on what they contributed and on any investment gains or employer matches, when they take the funds out.<\/p>\n<p>A Roth 401(k) works the opposite way, with users paying after\u2011tax money now, and in retirement.<\/p>\n<p>But they can withdraw both their contributions and all the growth in their account completely tax\u2011free.<\/p>\n<p>Ramsey said: \u201cMany employers will offer a company match \u2013 that\u2019s when your company offers to match a percentage of your retirement contributions in your 401(k).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTranslation?
