The CBS Sports 2026 golf season is officially underway with the Farmers Insurance Open this weekend. It also features the debut of Johnson Wagner as an on-course reporter for PGA Tour coverage.<\/p>\n

Wagner, a three-time tournament champion on the PGA Tour, joined CBS Sports in December<\/a> after spending the past few years as an analyst for NBC Sports and Golf Channel. He\u2019s been known for entertaining golf reports that feature recreating<\/a> shots<\/a> post-round or ahead of tournaments.<\/p>\n

But in his CBS debut, Wagner even recreated a shot while the tournament was still going on during third-round action on Saturday at Torrey Pines.<\/p>\n

On the first hole, Brooks Koepka had an incredible shot from the cart path concrete that landed on the green, near the flag.<\/p>\n

Just over 20 minutes later, Wagner recreated the Koepka shot, or tried to, in his debut \u201cRun It Back With JW\u201d segment on CBS.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, Jim (Nantz), pretty interesting decision that Brooks Koepka made to hit it right here off the path, because when you look at the rough where he would have dropped, it\u2019s going straight down grain and still would have had this angle,\u201d Wagner explained. \u201cBut he got really lucky. There\u2019s trees over here. He\u2019s got a perfectly clear shot.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wagner then set up to prepare for recreating the shot.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe key to hitting off the cart path is to not flinch at the bottom,\u201d Wagner said, before hitting the shot. \u201cWell, that\u2019s way left. That is not very good. Hopefully, the catch cam didn\u2019t get it. If I had hit it on the green, though, I wouldn\u2019t have three-putted.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI got you up and down for par, by the way,\u201d CBS play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz said. \u201cWe\u2019re going to have some fun with this segment this year. We\u2019ve loved watching you do this in the past. And not an easy shot, as he just proved. Because he\u2019s had so many occasions where he has not only executed the shot, he\u2019s done it better than what we saw in competition from the guys in the tournament.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, absolutely. That\u2019s good stuff there from Johnson,\u201d CBS color commentator Trevor Immelman, the 2008 Masters champion, said. \u201cI\u2019ll tell you what- it sounded real good. Unfortunately, the club face was just a little bit closed at impact.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHis first swing of the day, and he\u2019s got to go live on his CBS Sports debut,\u201d Nantz said with a laugh. \u201cWe called some of your greatest moments. There might have been a little pressure on that shot.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m definitely feeling a little nervous,\u201d Wagner said. \u201cA little crowd around me. I\u2019m just happy I didn\u2019t hit anybody.\u201d<\/p>\n

It will be fun to follow the \u201cRun It Back\u201d segments throughout the season, and it\u2019s a great addition to the PGA Tour broadcasts for CBS Sports.<\/p>\n
