Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in downtown Los Angeles for a second day of protests against the Trump administration\u2019s immigration enforcement operations.<\/p>\n

Union leaders, activists, civic groups and community members assembled outside L.A. City Hall and Grand Park as part of an \u201cICE Out\u201d rally, while similar protests took place across the country.<\/p>\n

Demonstrators were seen chanting and holding signs, demanding that federal agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Customs and Border Protection and Homeland Security leave Southern California and for Congress to block federal funding for the operations.<\/p>\n

Organizers also called for justice after recent deadly incidents in Minneapolis including the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti involving Border Patrol officers and the shooting death of Renee Nicole Good involving an ICE agent.<\/p>\n

    \u201cI lived in Minneapolis for 29 years and I hate seeing what is happening out there right now, \u201c a demonstrator told KTLA\u2019s Chris Wolfe.<\/p>\n

    \u201cObviously, I want ICE out of L.A., but the way they\u2019ve been operating across the entire country needs to end,\u201d another protestor said.<\/p>\n

    Organizer Mike Diggins, who spoke at the rally, said in a statement that, \u201cICE, CBP, and DHS are barely over 20 years old. They aren\u2019t some venerable, proven, storied federal agencies. They are merely massive overreaches of government power that have been used to target and abuse minorities and political dissidents from their very inception.\u201d<\/p>\n

    The Trump administration said it is enforcing the law and remains focused on removing criminals who are living in the United States illegally.<\/p>\n

    There are now indications that the administration may be scaling back its immigration operations or modifying its tactics.<\/a> On Saturday, Trump said he has ordered the Department of Homeland Security to \u201cunder no circumstances\u201d get involved<\/a> with protests in Democratic-led cities unless they ask for federal help or federal property is threatened.<\/p>\n

    On Friday, rallies and demonstrations were held<\/a> across Southern California for a National Shutdown day, an effort to encourage an economic shutdown to send a message, while calling for federal officials to reduce or stop funding for ICE. High school students across Los Angeles and Orange counties also staged walkouts in solidarity.<\/p>\n

    Several people were arrested Friday night after reports of clashes with Los Angeles police after authorities issued a dispersal order.<\/p>\n

    Speaking on Friday,<\/a> L.A. Mayor Karen Bass said, \u201cI think the protests are extremely important, but it is equally important for these protests to be peaceful, for vandalism not to take place. That just hurts the city. That does not impact the [Trump] administration in any type of way that\u2019s going to bring about change.\u201d<\/p>\n

    On Saturday night, crowds convened outside L.A. City Hall to continue speaking out while a small group also gathered outside the Metropolitan Detention Center in downtown, where some officers were seen creating a skirmish line near the building\u2019s entrance.<\/p>\n

    However, so far, no arrests have been made on Saturday night.<\/p>\n
