Pete Davidson<\/a> made his surprise \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d<\/a> return in tonight\u2019s cold open as Trump-appointed Border Czar Tom Homan<\/a>, who tried quizzing a group of confused ICE agents on how they could \u201clower the temperature\u201d in Minnesota.<\/p>\n

Davidson\u2019s Homan kicked off \u201cSNL\u2019s\u201d 1,000th episode by explaining his sudden arrival in Minneapolis. \u201cI\u2019m sure a lot of you are wondering why [Border Patrol Commander] Greg Bovino, the last guy, was dismissed,\u201d he noted. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t because he did a bad job or publicly lied about the shooting of an American citizen or even, uh oh, dressed like a Nazi! It was that he was filmed doing these things.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe president no-likey like that,\u201d Davidson\u2019s Homan remarked. \u201cSo I\u2019m here now, and we need to tighten up.\u201d When he then asked the ICE agents what they were even meant to be looking for in Minneapolis in the first place, one of them responded, \u201cEpstein Files<\/a>!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo! No, we actually just released those to distract from this, which is ironic, because we did this to distract from those,\u201d Davidson\u2019s panicked Homan responded. Shifting focus, he decided to ask the gathered ICE agents when the right time to use force is. \u201cRight away,\u201d one replied. \u201cNo! Think of the opposite,\u201d Davidson\u2019s Homan countered, only for another to guess, \u201cPreemptively?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAlso no!\u201d the Border Czar said. \u201cIt\u2019s kind of a trick question, because we actually don\u2019t want to use force. Remember, the job ultimately is about keeping America safe from\u2026 what?\u201d The leading question prompted one ICE agent (played by \u201cSNL\u201d star James Austin Johnson) to guess, \u201cThis could be wrong, but\u2026 Don Lemon?,\u201d in reference to the former CNN anchor\u2019s arrest<\/a> Friday.<\/p>\n

It did not take long for the clueless ICE agents gathered to push Davidson\u2019s Border Czar to his breaking point. \u201cLook, I\u2019m Tom Homan, okay? I\u2019m the separating-families-at-the-border guy! I\u2019m the on-film-taking-a-$50,000-bribe guy, and you all are making me look like the upstanding, reasonable adult in the room!\u201d he incredulously observed. \u201cThat\u2019s crazy!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s recap. What have we learned today?\u201d Davidson\u2019s Homan later asked, as the ICE meeting neared its conclusion. \u201cThis could be wrong, but you hired a bunch of angry, aggressive guys, gave us guns and didn\u2019t train us,\u201d Johnson\u2019s ICE agent offered. \u201cSo this is maybe what you wanted to happen?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, come on, man! Don\u2019t start thinking now!\u201d Davidson\u2019s Homan responded. \u201cLook, the situation out there has been rough, and we need to lower the temperature. So let\u2019s get out there. Let\u2019s show some restraint. Let\u2019s do our job without violating anyone\u2019s rights as Americans. Can you do that?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo,\u201d one ICE agent swiftly replied. \u201cWell, I had to ask,\u201d Davidson\u2019s deflated Border Czar concluded. \u201cMaybe just try not to get filmed.\u201d<\/p>\n
