{"id":56000,"date":"2025-07-11T05:14:14","date_gmt":"2025-07-11T05:14:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/56000\/"},"modified":"2025-07-11T05:14:14","modified_gmt":"2025-07-11T05:14:14","slug":"phoenix-police-arrest-3-suspects-in-sophisticated-retail-theft-crime-ring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/56000\/","title":{"rendered":"Phoenix police arrest 3 suspects in \u2018sophisticated\u2019 retail theft crime ring"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\"><b>PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 Three people have been arrested after Phoenix Police Department detectives dismantled what they called a sophisticated retail theft crime ring in the Valley.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">On Thursday, police identified the suspects as Marcos Ortega Hernandez, Yuli Esther Degante Vigueras and Nephtali Santiago-Garcia, all of whom have been indicted on felony charges stemming from the alleged operation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">According to the Phoenix PD, detectives identified a crew believed to be responsible for stealing $160,000 worth of products, mainly from Bath &amp; Body Works locations across the Valley. Police say that the crooks were also linked to similar crimes in Texas and Nevada.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">After some time, Garia and Vigueras, who are married, were identified as buying stolen products from the theft crew and then reselling them for a profit. In a news release, authorities detailed that their Glendale home would often serve as a \u201cstorefront\u201d where buyers would come in to buy stolen merchandise through online platforms.<\/p>\n<p>What was taken<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"Phoenix police released video of the search warrants conducted, showing hundreds of thousands...\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/SBEQ7B4XBZAOPDDWY2EBBY3UTA.png\" width=\"980\" height=\"550\" \/>Phoenix police released video of the search warrants conducted, showing hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of stolen product.(Phoenix Police Department)<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">As investigators continued their work, Hernandez was identified as a delivery driver who would take goods meant for major retailers, such as Bath &amp; Body Works, Old Navy, Victoria\u2019s Secret, Gap, and Banana Republic, but would instead deliver them to the couple. Detectives alleged that he diverted about $200,000 for illegal resale in exchange for about $72,000 in payments from the couple.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">A search warrant of Garia and Vigueras\u2019 home in the West Valley ended with detectives uncovering more than $355,000 in unopened products from Bath and Body Works as well as $5,000 in new items from Victoria\u2019s Secret. Both were arrested during the search.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Hernandez was ultimately arrested on June 26 after a similar search warrant turned up more stolen goods, police said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cOrganized crime has no place in our city, and we are aggressively pursuing those that are responsible. I could not be prouder of the professionalism, determination and teamwork displayed by those detectives, civilian investigators, and officers involved in this case,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.phoenix.gov\/administration\/departments\/police\/about-us\/executive-staff\/police-executive-staff-biographies.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.phoenix.gov\/administration\/departments\/police\/about-us\/executive-staff\/police-executive-staff-biographies.html\">Phoenix Police Assistant Chief Ed DeCastro<\/a>. \u201cTo the community, thank you for your trust and your support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">In the last three years, the <a href=\"https:\/\/maricopacountyattorney.org\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/maricopacountyattorney.org\/\">Maricopa County Attorney\u2019s Office<\/a> has focused extensively on combating organized retail crime, something County Attorney Rachel Mitchell has repeatedly spoken about.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cSince 2022, we have successfully prosecuted nearly 900 ORC cases, and we have recovered millions in stolen goods.
