If the animal doesn&#8217;t see its shadow, it stays above ground, meaning it&#8217;s a sign of spring. \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ll get through this together,&#8221; joked Staten Island District Attorney Michael McMahon.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The annual ceremony was closed to the public due to weather conditions, but zoo staff <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/100064677762929\/videos\/2085565455602047\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">streamed the prediction live<\/a> on Facebook.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>NOAA\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.noaa.gov\/heritage\/stories\/grading-groundhogs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">ranked Chuck<\/a>\u00a0as the country&#8217;s most accurate groundhog, according to his predictions from 2005 to 2024.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Phil and Chuck&#8217;s predictions align\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Punxsutawney Phil emerged from his burrow and saw his shadow, meaning he also thinks there will be six more weeks of winter.  <\/p>\n<p>More than 30,000 people were in the town of Punxsutawney, about 80 miles from Pittsburgh, to see Phil on Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Last year&#8217;s Groundhog Day prediction<\/p>\n<p>Chuck <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/staten-island-chuck-groundhog-day-prediction-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">didn&#8217;t see his shadow<\/a>\u00a0and predicted an early spring in 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The forecast contradicted Phil, who predicted six more weeks of winter.
