New York City\u2019s general election for mayor is still more than four months away \u2014 but the mudslinging has already started.<\/p>\n
Incumbent Mayor Eric Adams, a Democrat running on an independent line in the November contest, sparred with a longtime Andrew Cuomo aide on social media \u2014 after she called out Hizzoner\u2019s penchant for clubbing.<\/p>\n
\u201c12:01am tweeting \u2013 which private club was this sent from? Or were you busy smoking cigars with more antisemites at the time of the tweet?\u201d Cuomo lieutenant Melissa DeRosa zinged at Adams<\/a> Thursday.<\/p>\n Incumbent Mayor Eric Adams and longtime Andrew Cuomo aide Melissa DeRosa clashed on social media after the Cuomo lieutenant called out Adams for constantly going clubbing. Pacific Press\/LightRocket via Getty Images<\/p>\n DeRosa \u2014 a fierce backer of Cuomo\u2019s comeback bid for mayor who worked as his right-hand in the governor\u2019s office \u2014 had amplified a New York Times story reporting that Adams\u2019 Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Kaz Daughtry was working with ICE on immigration raids.<\/p>\n \u201cThank god this city has Jessica Tisch @NYPDPC<\/a> at the helm, or one can only imagine what @ericadamsfornyc<\/a> and his admin would be doing to bend to Trump\u2019s will,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n The mayor shot back with his own choice words shortly after midnight.<\/p>\n \u201cAgreed. Jessica Tisch \u2014 second woman NYPD commissioner \u2014 is leading the department because I appointed her. And she\u2019s delivering results. Andrew Cuomo? He\u2019s running for office because he got run out of office?\u201d he posted<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n DeRosa then slammed Adams\u2019 love of nightlife, while also bringing up his recent controversial interview with antisemitic podcaster<\/a> Sneako over cigars at Gracie Mansion.<\/p>\n DeRosa took to X to call out Adams, sending a tweet at 12:01 am speculating that he was at a club or smoking cigars. Eric Adams\/X<\/p>\n Adams hit back, posting: \u201cI was en route to the Crane Club,\u201d a luxury Chelsea steakhouse that also boasts a\u00a0members-only\u00a0club within the restaurant.<\/p>\n \u201cCrime is down, nightlife is back, and the $30 billion industry is helping to rebuild the economy @andrewcuomo<\/a> tanked with his failed policies like bail reform,\u201d the mayor posted from his campaign account.<\/p>\n \u201cEric Adams: Delivers. Never quits.\u201d<\/p>\n Adams fired back and responded that he was on his way to the Crane club while also taking a shot at mayoral hopeful and Democratic nominee for mayor, Andrew Cuomo. Getty Images<\/p>\n To political observers, the social media spat was sign that November\u2019s election is heating up and likely only to get nastier along the way.\u00a0<\/p>\n Political consultant Chris Sosa said that DeRosa\u2019s posts were indicative of Cuomo\u2019s political style but that there was little the campaign could gain from it.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cThis is the Andrew Cuomo way \u2013 insult, antagonize and bully, even when there\u2019s nothing to be gained. It\u2019s not new to anyone who\u2019s had to deal with Andrew in Albany,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
