PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Kicking off Black History Month, West Philadelphia’s own Chill Moody is on a mission to make golf accessible to everyone, regardless of background.<\/p>\n
The Hip-hop artist and founder of “We Golf Now” invited families to Ballers in Fishtown, to sign up and try out the new golf simulators.<\/p>\n
Through his non-profit, Moody is offering free weekly golf classes to kids, ages eight to 18 in the Philadelphia area.<\/p>\n
“We’re teaching the terms and the etiquette of the golf course. When you learn that stuff, the barrier isn’t as high as I thought it was,” said Chill Moody. “So creating this space creates that opportunity, so we break down those barriers.”<\/p>\n
The non-profit is hoping to inspire more Black and brown youth to get involved in golf through youth clinics, mentorship programs and workforce opportunities.<\/p>\n
Moody was also there Sunday signing copies of his new children’s book, “Gia the Golfer.”<\/p>\n
It’s a story about a young, Black golfer who finds her late grandfather’s golf clubs, while cleaning out his attic.<\/p>\n
She finds magic in these clubs that take her all the way to a golf tournament, until she loses them on her big day. Gia perseveres without her grandfather’s clubs and discovers the magic has been in her all along.<\/p>\n
