{"id":56123,"date":"2025-07-11T06:19:13","date_gmt":"2025-07-11T06:19:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/56123\/"},"modified":"2025-07-11T06:19:13","modified_gmt":"2025-07-11T06:19:13","slug":"statewide-effort-aiming-to-ban-pavement-art-on-public-roads-could-affect-some-jacksonville-streets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/56123\/","title":{"rendered":"Statewide effort aiming to ban pavement art on public roads could affect some Jacksonville streets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2014 A new state and federal effort to ban pavement art on public roads may mean changes for some Jacksonville crosswalks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">Florida\u2019s Transportation Secretary said county and local governments that do not remove road art could lose state funding.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionnewsjax.com\/live-breaking\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.actionnewsjax.com\/live-breaking\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>&gt;&gt;&gt; STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">The rainbow crosswalks on Lomax Street in Jacksonville\u2019s Five Points area are potentially at risk of removal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">\u201cI feel like there are a lot better things to be concerned about than a rainbow that\u2019s just bringing a little bit of joy to everyone\u2019s day, hopefully,\u201d said Anthony Lambruschi, who lives in Jacksonville.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">A memo from FDOT said non-standard surface markings, signage, and signals that do not directly contribute to traffic safety or control can lead to distractions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\"><b>[DOWNLOAD: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionnewsjax.com\/mobile-apps\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><b>Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks<\/b><\/a><b>]<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">And the memo calls for the removal of bicycle symbols, crosswalk markings, or other pavement Surface art that is associated with social, political, or ideological messages or images.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">\u201cI think it\u2019s ridiculous,\u201d said Patrick Shipman, who lives in Jacksonville.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">But some people agree with the state.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">Joshua Seabolt said he feels art is better served on the side of a building.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\"><b>[SIGN UP: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/membercenter.actionnewsjax.com\/newsletters\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><b>Action News Jax Daily Headlines Newsletter<\/b><\/a><b>] <\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">\u201cPutting artwork on a road, especially an active roadway, the artwork is going to degrade the orientation or your ability to read clearly,\u201d said Seabolt. \u201cThe road is going to degrade, not to mention you are going to have to repair or replenish the paint.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">Action News Jax reached out to FDOT to ask if this means they want crews to remove the art and if the state would cover the cost.
