{"id":56163,"date":"2025-07-11T06:39:10","date_gmt":"2025-07-11T06:39:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/56163\/"},"modified":"2025-07-11T06:39:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-11T06:39:10","slug":"judge-blocks-nypds-attempt-to-force-dozens-of-unqualified-officers-to-resign-after-faulty-hiring-standards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/56163\/","title":{"rendered":"Judge blocks NYPD&#8217;s attempt to force dozens of unqualified officers to resign after faulty hiring standards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The NYPD is trying to force dozens of officers and recruits\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/05\/22\/us-news\/nypd-inspector-bumped-for-keeping-more-than-70-troubled-recruits-at-academy-including-ex-sex-for-ot-cops-nephew-sources\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">who failed to meet the department\u2019s standards<\/a>\u00a0to resign\u00a0 \u2014\u00a0 but the effort faced a roadblock late Thursday after a state judge blocked the move, the Post has learned.<\/p>\n<p>At least 30 cops and cadets \u2013 hired between 2023 and 2024 under Inspector Terrell Anderson, who has since been transferred out of his role with the Police Academy \u2013 were notified of the NYPD\u2019s attempt to purge them Thursday, according to the sources.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey all got called down,\u201d a police source told The Post. \u201cThey\u2019re being told: \u2018You didn\u2019t meet the qualifications. You shouldn\u2019t have been hired. You have 24 hours to resign or be fired.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Former NYPD Inspector Terrell Anderson could face departmental charges. NYDP\/50-a.org<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of them are psych issues,\u201d the source said. \u201cThere are other issues too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NYPD confirmed the move in a statement issued to The Post.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFollowing an internal investigation, the NYPD recently identified officers who joined the department in the past two years despite receiving final notices of disqualification during the application process, which is a violation of the law,\u201d a department spokesperson said. \u201cThe department was not legally allowed to hire these individuals and was forced to inform them that they could no longer continue as members of the NYPD.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But a temporary restraining order handed down later in the day by Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Paul Goetz put the firings on hold and called for the Police Benevolent Association and police officials to face off in court on July 15.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dozens of NYPD recruits will be forced to resign after failing to meet the department\u2019s standards. Matthew McDermott<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe [are] grateful for the pause in these unjust firings, but this is only the first step,\u201d PBA President Patrick Hendry said in a statement, stressing that the singled-out cops \u201cdid nothing wrong.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is not their fault that their hiring was tainted by a rogue inspector and arbitrary process. In many cases, they were initially disqualified for minor issues and may have been hired on appeal if given the opportunity to do so. Many of these police officers have served with distinction,\u201d he continued.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The targeted cops include both sworn officers and recruits at the academy, who were notified that they had 24 hours to either resign or they would be fired, law enforcement sources said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Anderson led the NYPD \u201cCandidate Assessment Division.\u201d Facebook<\/p>\n<p>During their application process, the recruits were issued notices of disqualification, which prohibits the NYPD from hiring them as a matter of state law, the sources said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Some of the recruits in question allegedly lied about their previous convictions, multiple arrests and previous employment terminations, according to the sources.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The officers\u2019 guns were removed over the past few days, the sources.<\/p>\n<p>Dozens of NYPD recruits who failed to meet the department\u2019s standards are being forced to resign. STEPHEN YANG<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese police officers aren\u2019t responsible for the NYPD\u2019s broken hiring process,\u201d Hendry said\u00a0before the temporary order was issued. \u201cAs far as they know, they were qualified to be New York City police officers, because the NYPD hired and trained them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is an absolute travesty that the department is trying to cover its tracks by summarily forcing them off the job, without affording them the same appeal process available to other applicants,\u201d the union head said.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tKeep up with today\u2019s most important news\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tStay up on the very latest with Evening Update.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThanks for signing up!\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are exploring all legal options to protect our members\u2019 rights and hold the NYPD accountable for this complete management failure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sources said the controversy followed a push by NYPD brass to beef up the department\u2019s dwindling ranks, with\u00a034,475 uniformed officers this year, down 14% from 40,200 in 2000.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/02\/26\/us-news\/nypd-commish-jessica-tisch-admits-nyc-need-more-cops-heres-how-she-plans-to-attract-new-recruits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lowered some standards for recruits<\/a>, reinstating the 1.5-mile timed run but reducing college credit requirements and other measures.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Anderson, who led the NYPD\u2019s \u201cCandidate Assessment Division,\u201d was transferred to the housing unit back May 12 as part of an Internal Affairs Bureau probe into claims he allowed more than 70 candidates to stay at the academy, even though they had failed the psych requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Emilio Andino and his aunt Quathisha Epps. Obtained by the NY Post<\/p>\n<p>Anderson\u00a0is now facing serious\u00a0departmental charges, according to the sources.<\/p>\n<p>Among the troubled recruits allegedly kept on by Anderson was Emilio Andino, the nephew of ex-<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/03\/11\/us-news\/ex-cop-at-center-of-nypd-maddrey-sex-for-ot-scandal-files-complaint-over-crude-sex-videos-leaked-online\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NYPD Lt.
