The mother of \u201cToday\u201d host Savannah Guthrie<\/a> has been reported missing from her home in Arizona and local authorities say they suspect foul play. <\/p>\n

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen Saturday night<\/a> at her residence in a community northeast of Tucson, according to the Pima County Sheriff\u2019s Department. <\/p>\n

On Monday morning, Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed that detectives have transitioned their investigation from a missing person\u2019s case to a criminal case. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe do in fact have a crime scene, we do in fact have a crime,\u201d Nanos said at a news conference. <\/p>\n

\u201cShe did not leave on her own, we know that,\u201d he said. \u201cShe\u2019s very limited in her mobility.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nanos declined to comment further on what led detectives to that conclusion, but said they found suspicious circumstances at her home. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s very concerning what we\u2019re learning from the house,\u201d Nanos said at a news conference late Sunday. Though he declined to comment on details, he pointed out that Guthrie was of \u201cgood, sound mind\u201d with no cognitive issues. She lived alone. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis isn\u2019t somebody that just wandered off,\u201d Nanos reiterated Monday morning. \u201cShe couldn\u2019t walk 50 yards by herself.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Monday morning, \u201cToday\u201d hosts shared a statement from Savannah Guthrie that thanked viewers for their \u201cthoughts, prayers and messages of support.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cRight now our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom,\u201d the longtime \u201cToday\u201d personality and journalist wrote on behalf of her family. She encouraged anyone with information on her mother\u2019s location to contact the Pima County Sheriff\u2019s Department. <\/p>\n

That plea was echoed Monday morning by Nanos, who called on the public to report anything out of the ordinary or any possible sightings of Nancy Guthrie. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re asking the community\u2019s help,\u201d Nanos said. \u201cWe don\u2019t need another bad, tragic ending \u2014 we need some help.\u201d<\/p>\n

Still, he said their department remains focused on this case and is coordinating with any other agencies that may be able to help, including the security team for Savannah Guthrie. Nanos said they were not aware of any specific threats to the journalist that might be related to her mother\u2019s disappearance. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re doing all we can to try to locate her,\u201d Nanos said. \u201cEvery tool we have, we will use.\u201d<\/p>\n

Particularly urgent in this case is that Nancy Guthrie needs to take a specific medication every day. <\/p>\n

\u201cMedication that if she doesn\u2019t have in 24 hours, it can be fatal,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not clear when she would have last taken her medication. <\/p>\n

Family members left Nancy Guthrie\u2019s home around 9:45 p.m. Saturday evening, Nanos said.
