Karen Fehr sat silently in a Kelowna<\/a>, B.C., courtroom Thursday, wearing her daughter\u2019s clothes \u2014 a painful tribute to the vibrant young woman she raised and loved.<\/p>\n

Just steps away in the courtroom, on a video screen from custody, appeared James Plover \u2014 Bailey McCourt\u2019s estranged husband, now charged with her second-degree murder.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was loved here where she was raised,\u201d Fehr said. \u201cShe was always smiling, always beautiful. She made everybody happy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The courtroom was packed with people who cared for Bailey. As Fehr fought back tears, she admitted, \u201cKnowing I was coming here today\u2026 I think I showered myself more with my tears.\u201d<\/p>\n

She recalled the weight of the loss setting in just that morning. \u201cI had my first breakdown. I haven\u2019t had any time. I had to deal with all her stuff, her belongings \u2014 because we just moved in together.\u201d<\/p>\n

McCourt was killed last week in a Kelowna parking lot, where she and a friend were attacked with a hammer. Plover was later arrested and charged. A witness who intervened during the violent assault recalled holding Bailey\u2019s hand and reassuring her as help arrived.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was squeezing my hand when I asked if she could hear me,\u201d said witness Christopher Anderson. \u201cI told her she was safe, doing well, and help was coming.\u201d<\/p>\n

That moment brought some comfort to Bailey\u2019s mother. \u201cI want to say thank you to the man that was with her,\u201d said Fehr. \u201cI finally saw the story last night and was able to hear that she wasn\u2019t alone \u2014 and for him to tell her she was loved.\u201d<\/p>\n
