{"id":562568,"date":"2026-02-03T05:19:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-03T05:19:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/562568\/"},"modified":"2026-02-03T05:19:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-03T05:19:09","slug":"sakai-makes-fundraising-comeback-in-bexar-county-judge-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/562568\/","title":{"rendered":"Sakai makes fundraising comeback in Bexar County judge race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After <a href=\"https:\/\/sanantonioreport.org\/nirenberg-outraises-sakai-in-bexar-county-judge-race-but-incumbent-has-more-cash\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/sanantonioreport.org\/nirenberg-outraises-sakai-in-bexar-county-judge-race-but-incumbent-has-more-cash\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">being outraised<\/a> by his Democratic primary challenger in the final quarter of 2025, Bexar County Judge <a href=\"https:\/\/sanantonioreport.org\/profile\/peter-sakai-2026-candidate-for-bexar-county-judge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Peter Sakai<\/a> made a comeback last month.<\/p>\n<p>Campaign finance data must be reported more frequently right before an election, and reports covering  Jan. 1 through Jan. 22 were due Monday for state and county candidates.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/edocs.bexar.org\/elections\/ce02022025petersakai.pdf\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/edocs.bexar.org\/elections\/ce02022025petersakai.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Sakai\u2019s indicated<\/a> that he\u2019d raised $176,000 in that span \u2014 more than triple what former Mayor <a href=\"https:\/\/sanantonioreport.org\/profile\/ron-nirenberg-2026-candidate-for-bexar-county-judge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Ron Nirenberg<\/a> raised over the same time period. Sakai spent about $200,000 and reported $483,000 on hand as of Jan. 22.<\/p>\n<p>By comparison, Nirenberg raised $52,000 between Jan. 1 and Jan. 22, spent $86,000 and <a href=\"https:\/\/edocs.bexar.org\/elections\/ce02022026ronnirenberg30th-02022026175443.pdf\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/edocs.bexar.org\/elections\/ce02022026ronnirenberg30th-02022026175443.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">reported $347,000 on hand<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sakai\u2019s haul includes $52,000 worth of in-kind advertising from Carmen and Joe Gamez, owners of Gamez\u00a0Law Firm, to sponsor billboard ads on his behalf. He also received a $75,000 contribution from the Texas Association of Realtors PAC.<\/p>\n<p>Nirenberg\u2019s includes a pledged contribution of $25,000 from local philanthropist Harvey Najim, who already loaned the campaign $100,000 and contributed a $35,000 check on the last reports.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike city offices, there are no contribution limits for county candidates, so individual donors are free to give as much as they want to a single candidate.<\/p>\n<p>Early voting for the March 3 primary runs Feb. 17 through Feb. 27.
