{"id":564759,"date":"2026-02-04T03:28:18","date_gmt":"2026-02-04T03:28:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/564759\/"},"modified":"2026-02-04T03:28:18","modified_gmt":"2026-02-04T03:28:18","slug":"nearly-3-dozen-employees-at-mercyone-north-iowa-medical-center-to-be-laid-off-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/564759\/","title":{"rendered":"Nearly 3 dozen employees at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center to be laid off | News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MASON CITY, Iowa \u2013 Trinity Health is confirming layoffs at three MercyOne locations in Iowa.<\/p>\n<p>The company is laying off 34 employees at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center and 67 employees at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center.\u00a0 Those will take place by March 17.\u00a0 40 employees will also be laid off at MercyOne in Ottumwa by February 27.<\/p>\n<p>Trinity Health spokesman Todd Mizener issued the following statement on behalf of the company:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis decision is a proactive step and part of our broader initiatives to reposition our ministry and<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>work to ensure\u00a0long-term sustainability and future growth.\u00a0Like other health care providers across the country, we are navigating significant challenges,\u00a0including\u00a0low reimbursement that doesn\u2019t cover the cost of care, critical clinical<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>staffing shortages, and the escalating costs of drugs, supplies,\u00a0equipment, and technology. The rising cost of charity care and caring\u202ffor underinsured and uninsured patients presents\u00a0further strain on health care providers.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a responsibility to remain operationally and<strong>\u202f<\/strong>financially sustainable. That requires us to consider new ways to reduce costs while sustaining the safe,\u00a0accessible\u00a0and affordable<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>high-quality care our communities depend on.\u202fThe recent and future government funding policy changes are projected to reduce Trinity Health\u2019s annual\u00a0revenue by\u00a0$1.5 billion. Additionally,\u00a0more reductions in coverage, payment and access\u00a0to\u00a0Medicaid and Medicare\u00a0are\u00a0being considered by the\u00a0federal\u00a0government.<strong>\u202f<\/strong>It is not possible to simply absorb such a significant\u00a0financial\u00a0impact\u00a0without making thoughtful, forward-thinking changes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter careful\u00a0and thoughtful\u00a0analysis, certain non-patient-facing-revenue cycle functions will\u00a0be transitioned to a partner. As a result, positions within the revenue cycle department will\u00a0be reduced by 10.5% across\u202fTrinity Health\u2019s national\u00a0footprint.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile we are confident this is a necessary,\u00a0though\u202fpainful\u00a0action,\u202fwe also recognize the very<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>real\u00a0impact on colleagues whose roles are affected<strong>\u202f<\/strong>by job elimination.
