Among the biggest losers on the index were chip equipment maker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/6920.T-JP\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lasertec<\/a>, which plunged 7%, and game maker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/9766.T-JP\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Konami Group<\/a>, which lost 5.8%. Japanese semiconductor equipment powerhouse <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/2760.T-JP\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tokyo Electron<\/a> also declined 3.2%.<\/p>\n<p>The Topix declined 0.39%. <\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.AXJO\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">S&amp;P\/ASX 200<\/a> reversed course and rose 0.45%.<\/p>\n<p>South Korea&#8217;s Kospi advanced 0.4%, while the small-cap Kosdaq added 1.01%.<\/p>\n<p>Nintendo shares dropped <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/7974.T-JP\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">more than 9%<\/a>, despite maintaining its full-year sales forecast for the Switch 2 console, as investors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/02\/03\/nintendo-q3-earnings-switch-2-forecast.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">assessed<\/a> several potential headwinds for the gaming giant, including whether the company will be impacted by an unprecedented surge in memory prices \u2014 a key component in its consoles.<\/p>\n<p>Hong Kong <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.HSI\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hang Seng index<\/a> declined 0.1%, while the CSI 300 fell 0.28%.<\/p>\n<p>Spot gold prices added more than 1% to $5,002 per ounce, while spot silver added 0.69% to $85.70 per ounce.<\/p>\n<p>Overnight in the U.S., the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.SPX\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">S&amp;P 500<\/a>\u00a0pulled back as investors dumped technology stocks and moved into shares more broadly linked to improvements in the economy.<\/p>\n<p>The broad market index fell 0.84% and closed at 6,917.81. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.DJI\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dow Jones Industrial Average<\/a>\u00a0dipped 166.67 points, or 0.34%, to end at 49,240.99. Earlier, the 30-stock index rose as much as 0.5% to touch 49,653.13, a new record. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.IXIC\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nasdaq Composite<\/a>\u00a0shed 1.43%, settling at 23,255.19.<\/p>\n<p>Most tech shares were in the red, including most of the &#8220;Magnificent Seven&#8221; names that have reported earnings so far \u2014\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/MSFT\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Microsoft<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/META\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meta Platforms<\/a>\u00a0were both down more than 2%, while\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/AAPL\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apple<\/a>\u00a0was marginally lower.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/NVDA\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nvidia<\/a>\u00a0also slumped, with the artificial intelligence bellwether&#8217;s nearly 3% drop adding to its losses for the year.
