{"id":566285,"date":"2026-02-04T18:50:11","date_gmt":"2026-02-04T18:50:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/566285\/"},"modified":"2026-02-04T18:50:11","modified_gmt":"2026-02-04T18:50:11","slug":"chiwetel-ejiofor-joins-scarlett-johansson-in-new-exorcist-movie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/566285\/","title":{"rendered":"Chiwetel Ejiofor Joins Scarlett Johansson in New Exorcist movie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/chiwetel-ejiofor\/\" id=\"auto-tag_chiwetel-ejiofor_1\" data-tag=\"chiwetel-ejiofor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chiwetel Ejiofor<\/a> is the latest actor to keep the faith, joining the growing cast of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/exorcist\/\" id=\"auto-tag_exorcist_1\" data-tag=\"exorcist\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Exorcist<\/a>, Blumhouse-Atomic Monster and Morgan Creek Entertainment\u2019s new take on the horror classic.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>The move reunites Ejiofor with Mike Flanagan, who has promised a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/the-exorcist-trilogy-canceled-mike-flanagan-new-movie-1235608632\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fresh and bold<\/a>\u201d take on the material, and who directed the actor in The Life of Chuck, the adaptation of a Stephen King story which won the People\u2019s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2024.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Flanagan wrote the script and is directing and producing the new feature that is not a remake nor a sequel but set in the\u00a0Exorcist\u00a0\u201cuniverse.\u201d Ejiofor joins Scarlett Johansson, Jacobi Jupe, and Diane Lane in the roll call.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Sources say the actor will be playing an ex-con turned priest. (Johansson is playing Jupe\u2019s mother.)<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>The original\u00a0Exorcist, based on the novel by William Peter Blatty and directed by William Friedkin, focused on the demonic possession of a young girl and the priests that try to save her. The film was nominated for 10 Oscars. The various follow-ups mostly featured stories centered on the girl (now grown-up), the backstories of the priests or other demonic cases detectives from the first movie investigated.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Universal Pictures will release the new film theatrically and has set a March 12, 2027 release date. The project is due to shoot in New York City.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tExorcist is being produced by Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, Morgan Creek Entertainment and Flanagan, who is operating via his Red Room Pictures banner.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>David Robinson produces for Morgan Creek Entertainment. Jason Blum and Ryan Turek serve as producer and executive producer, respectively, for Blumhouse-Atomic Monster. Alexandra Magistro will also executive produce for Red Room Pictures.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Ejiofor earned an Oscar nomination as well as a BAFTA Award performance as Solomon Northup in 12 Years a Slave.
