{"id":5679,"date":"2025-06-22T16:47:23","date_gmt":"2025-06-22T16:47:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/5679\/"},"modified":"2025-06-22T16:47:23","modified_gmt":"2025-06-22T16:47:23","slug":"phoenix-adopts-building-code-focused-on-safety","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/5679\/","title":{"rendered":"Phoenix adopts building code focused on safety"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PHOENIX \u2014 The Phoenix City Council voted to update its building code to keep construction projects safe, innovative and sustainable, according to a Wednesday press release.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning Aug. 1 \u2014 due to a built-in \u201cgrace period\u201d for current projects \u2014 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.phoenix.gov\/newsroom\/pdd-news\/city-of-phoenix-adopts-2024-building-construction-code-to-suppor.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2024 Phoenix Building Construction Code<\/a> will be in effect.<\/p>\n<p>Any \u201cstandard plans\u201d have up to one year to comply with the new code, the release said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUpdating the building code is one of the most impactful ways we can promote safety, sustainability and long-term value for our residents and development community,\u201d Phoenix\u2019s Planning and Development Department Director Joshua Bednarek said in the release. \u201cThese changes reflect the hard work of city staff, stakeholders and technical experts, who reviewed every code and amendment to ensure this update meets the needs of our growing city, now and in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>New Phoenix building code highlights<\/p>\n<p>The following pieces of the new city building code were included in the release:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>EV charging requirements for easier access at one- and two-family homes based on Phoenix\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.phoenix.gov\/content\/dam\/phoenix\/sustainabilitysite\/mediaassets\/sustainability\/ev-home-page-assets\/City%20of%20PHX%20Transportation%20Electrification%20Action%20Plan.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Transportation Electrification Action Plan<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Improved water conservation by \u201clower maximum flow rates for faucets, showers and toilets.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Permits for \u201cstorage shipping containers\u201d and \u201cresidential fence replacements\u201d are no longer required.<\/li>\n<li>Buildings of up to 18 stories high can utilize \u201csustainable engineered wood\u201d called mass timber.<\/li>\n<li>Multifamily developments have less space restrictions for \u201cmechanical systems\u201d to allow for maximizing square footage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a class=\"twitter-follow-button\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/pwmoses11\" data-show-count=\"false\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Follow @pwmoses11<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We want to hear from you.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0px;\">Have a story idea or tip?
