SA Police says it is responding to reports of a plane crashing into the ocean off the state’s south coast.<\/p>\n

Police said they received reports of the incident involving a light plane in the Long Bay area near Goolwa South about 4:30pm.<\/p>\n

Emergency services are at the scene near the Murray Mouth.<\/p>\n

The police helicopter, Sea Rescue and three Country Fire Service vehicles are at the scene.<\/p>\n

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) said it had begun an investigation into the crash that involved a single-engine Cessna aeroplane which had “collided with water”.<\/p>\n

“ATSB transport safety investigators are expected on scene on Saturday, where they will examine the wreckage once it has been recovered from the water,” a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

“Investigators will also interview witnesses and involved parties, collect available video footage and any recorded flight tracking data, and obtain pilot and aircraft maintenance records.”<\/p>\n

The ATSB asked anyone with video footage to contact it.<\/p>\n

A Goolwa resident, Tamara, went down to the Murray Mouth to see what had happened after hearing sirens.<\/p>\n
