Can I come in?\u2019\u201d Douglas, 81, recalled at the TCM Classic Film Festival in New York City last week, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/michael-douglas-recalls-harsh-note-from-wall-street-director-11897788?_gl=1*c11g0t*_ga*MTU4NDkzOTkyMy4xNzE0NjU1ODUy*_ga_DK3GDWHWJH*czE3NzA1NTg4NDAkbzQyNiRnMSR0MTc3MDU1OTk0NCRqMzkkbDAkaDA.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">People. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI say, \u2018Yeah, come on in,&#8217;\u201d Douglas continued. \u201cHe comes in the trailer and sits down. He says to me, \u2018You okay?\u2019 I said, \u2018Yeah, I\u2019m okay.\u2019 [He asks], \u2018Are you doing drugs?\u2019 I said, \u2018No, I\u2019m not doing drugs.\u2019 And he said, \u2018Because you look like you\u2019ve never acted before in your life.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Michael Douglas attends TCM Classic Film Festival in New York on January 31. WireImage<\/p>\n<p>Douglas, who played devious businessman Gordon Gekko in <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2011\/03\/17\/michael-douglas-ex-wife-claims-she-went-after-wall-street-cash-because-of-madoff-and-starr-losses\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the 1987 film<\/a>, explained that at the time he wouldn\u2019t watch dallies, which are raw, unedited pieces of footage shot everyday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I said, \u2018Well, I don\u2019t like to look at the dailies because I\u2019m one of those guys that always sees what\u2019s wrong or what\u2019s not going to be in the film\u2019\u2026 so I don\u2019t pay attention to the dailies,\u201d Douglas recalled telling Stone, 79. \u201cSo I said, \u2018I guess I\u2019d better take a look,\u2019 and he said, \u2018Yeah, you better.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Douglas said he went into the editing room and analyzed two scenes, one of which was his limo scene with Charlie Sheen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I\u2019m looking at them really hard, and critically, and they seemed pretty good,\u201d he remembered. \u201cSo I keep saying, \u2018I think it\u2019s pretty good,\u2019 and [Stone said], \u2018Yeah, it is, isn\u2019t it.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Michael Douglas, Charlie Sheen in \u201cWall Street.\u201d \u00a920thCentFox\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/p>\n<p>Michael Douglas speaks onstage at the TCM Classic Film Festival on Jan. 31. Getty Images for TCM<\/p>\n<p>Stone\u2019s advice, Douglas said, helped the actor tap into Gekko\u2019s \u201cnastiness,\u201d \u201cvengeance\u201d and \u201cmeanness\u201d for the performance.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_30-0\">\u201cHe was willing for me to hate his guts for the rest of this movie to get that extra little push,\u201d Douglas explained.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cFatal Attraction\u201d star also noted that Stone has helped \u201cpush\u201d other actors to give \u201ctheir best performance,\u201d such as James Woods in\u00a0\u201cSalvador,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/30\/entertainment\/charlie-sheen-recalls-losing-born-on-the-fourth-of-july-role-to-tom-cruise\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Cruise in\u00a0\u201cBorn on the Fourth of July\u201d<\/a> and Kevin Costner in\u00a0\u201cJFK.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_34-0\">\u201cHis record of successes with actors is quite impressive,\u201d Douglas said of the filmmaker. \u201cSo I\u2019m deeply, deeply appreciative of the fact that it gave me part and the fact that he pushed me to another level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Michael Douglas in \u201cWall Street.\u201d \u00a920thCentFox\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/p>\n<p>Oliver Stone and Michael Douglas at the photocall for \u201cWall Street 2\u201d during the 63rd Cannes International Film Festival.
