{"id":577239,"date":"2026-02-09T10:27:22","date_gmt":"2026-02-09T10:27:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/577239\/"},"modified":"2026-02-09T10:27:22","modified_gmt":"2026-02-09T10:27:22","slug":"us-tells-iran-to-bring-concessions-to-next-nuclear-talks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/577239\/","title":{"rendered":"US tells Iran to bring concessions to next nuclear talks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/middle-east\/iran-news\/article-885811\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Trump administration<\/a> has told Iran that it expects the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/middle-east\/iran-news\/article-885990\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Iranian<\/a> delegation, led by Foreign Minister <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/middle-east\/iran-news\/article-885862\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Abbas Araghchi<\/a>, to arrive at their next meeting \u201cwith meaningful substance,\u201d two people familiar with the matter told The Jerusalem Post on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">On Friday, US special envoy Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, and US Central Command Commander Adm. Brad Cooper met with Araghchi and other Iranian senior officials in Oman.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">The first meeting was described as a \u201cgood meeting,\u201d focusing mainly on how the negotiations would be conducted rather than on the core issues themselves, the sources said. The Americans expect the Iranians to come to the next meeting prepared to offer concessions on the nuclear issue and other matters, they added.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/middle-east\/iran-news\/article-885867\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Araghchi<\/a> said a complete halt to uranium enrichment was absolutely unacceptable to Iran.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">\u201cThe discussions should focus on scenarios in which uranium enrichment continues, alongside assurances that the enrichment is solely for peaceful purposes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Tehran Times, an Iranian newspaper, with the cover photo of Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US special envoy Steve Witkoff, February 7, 2026. (credit: MAJID ASGARIPOUR\/WANA (WEST ASIA NEWS AGENCY) VIA REUTERS)<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">Araghchi insisted that the missile issue and the \u201cregional arena,\u201d i.e., Iran\u2019s proxies, were off the agenda for the negotiations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">\u201cThe subject of the negotiations is the nuclear issue, and that is how it will remain,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu plans to leave on Tuesday for a meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House scheduled to take place on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">On Sunday, the security cabinet convened. Israel\u2019s position is that negotiations with Iran must include preventing the terrorist regime in Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons, restrictions on its ballistic missiles, and an end to its support for the regional terrorist axis, the cabinet ministers were told.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">\u201cTime and again, the Iranian regime has proven that its promises cannot be trusted,\u201d the official talking points distributed to the cabinet ministers ahead of the meeting said. \u201cShould the Iranian regime, which has for decades oppressed its own people who aspire to freedom and justice, attempt to harm our sovereignty or our citizens, the consequences will be extremely severe. Any such attempt will be met with force and decisive action.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sa&#8217;ar emphasizes risk of Iranian nuclear weapons in meeting with Paraguayan counterpart<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">At the start of his meeting with the foreign minister of Paraguay, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa\u2019ar said the attempt by the world\u2019s most extreme regime, Iran, to obtain the world\u2019s most dangerous weapon, nuclear weapons, posed a clear threat to regional and global peace.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">\u201cThe long-range ballistic missiles the Iranian regime seeks to produce in massive quantities endanger Israel, but not only Israel,\u201d he said. \u201cThe Iranian regime has already used missiles against other countries in the Middle East. European countries are also threatened by the range of these missiles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">Iranian Army Commander Maj.-Gen.
