But soon after, the American confirmed his departure from the league and announced plans to spend most of his season on the DP World Tour while serving a one-year suspension from the PGA Tour.

PGA Tour called on to end Patrick Reed’s suspension early

Photo by Alvaro Medranda/Quality Sport Images/Getty Images

Reed’s suspension is set to end in August, but he was already planning to return as a past champion. His recent win at the Qatar Masters has nearly secured him one of the 10 full cards available through the DP World Tour.

However, with two wins already this year, there are growing calls for him to be reinstated sooner rather than later.

Ryan Lavner discussed the possibility of an early return on the Golf Channel Podcast and argued that the PGA Tour should make use of Reed’s current form.

“I love this idea because if we’re already rewriting the rules with this Returning Member Program, here’s another rule that they should write in: a battlefield promotion on the DP World Tour.

“If you win three times, you should automatically jump to the PGA Tour. They already do it for the Korn Ferry Tour. You do have the strategic alliance, expedite Patrick Reed to the PGA Tour if he wins one more time,” he stated.

Patrick Reed’s first PGA Tour event likely set in July

If Reed gets the chance to return to the PGA Tour and takes it, it would be a blow for the European circuit.

He has given an immediate lift to some of the DP World Tour events that do not carry the same profile as those in the Rolex Series.

As of now, it looks like his first event even partly connected to the PGA Tour will be at the Scottish Open in July.

With his world ranking now inside the top 20, Reed should also qualify for The Players Championship in March.

But his suspension is set to keep him out of TPC Sawgrass unless a rule change opens that door. On current form, it is a case they might need to look at more closely.

Read more:

Patrick Reed has found a way to stay in the spotlight, even though he is spending this season…

[47
217331,43653,1430,10123,1456,62,67,132,68
post-578413","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-golf","tag-dp-world","tag-dp-world-tour","tag-golf","tag-patrick-reed","tag-pga-tour","tag-sports","tag-united-states","tag-unitedstates","tag-us
["GET
