\n\tCatherine O\u2019Hara\u2019s cause of death has been determined. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe actress, who died Friday, Jan. 30<\/a> at the age of 71, died from a pulmonary embolism, according to The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, as reported by TMZ<\/a>. Rectal cancer was listed as the underlying cause of death.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe death certificate says she was cremated and her remains were given to her husband,\u00a0Robert \u201cBo\u201d Welch.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe comedic actress and two-time Emmy winner died at her home in Los Angeles after a brief illness, her reps at CAA confirmed. No further details of her illness were given at the time. <\/p>\n

\n\tO\u2019Hara, best known for playing\u00a0Kevin\u2019s (Macaulay Culkin) mother<\/a>, Kate, in the\u00a0Home Alone<\/a>\u00a0movies and Delia Deetz in Tim Burton\u2019s\u00a0Beetlejuice<\/a>, had a career renaissance in the past 10 years with\u00a0Schitt\u2019s Creek. She won an Emmy for her role opposite old friend Eugene Levy and\u00a0for Apple TV\u2019s The Studio<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\n\tDuring last year\u2019s Emmys, O\u2019Hara was a double nominee for her guest spot in HBO\u2019s\u00a0The Last of Us\u00a0along with her comedic turn in\u00a0The Studio which turned out to be O\u2019Hara\u2019s final series role. She had been set to continue her role in the show\u2019s second season, which began filming in mid-January.<\/p>\n

\n\tFollowing her death, many stars in Hollywood paid tribute<\/a> to the icon including Culkin,\u00a0Home Alone director Chris Columbus, her\u00a0Studio\u00a0co-stars, Seth Rogen and Ike Barinholtz and Eugene Levy. <\/p>\n

\n\tEugene Levy issued a statement to\u00a0THR,\u00a0\u201cWords seem inadequate to express the loss I feel today. I had the honor of knowing and working with the great Catherine O\u2019Hara for over 50 years. From our beginnings on the Second City stage, to SCTV, to the movies we did with Chris Guest, to our six glorious years on\u00a0Schitt\u2019s Creek,\u00a0I cherished our working relationship but most of all our friendship. And I will miss her. My heart goes out to Bo, Matthew, Luke and the entire O\u2019Hara family.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCulkin, who played her son in the\u00a0Home Alone\u00a0films, shared a touching post, \u201cMama. I thought we had time. I wanted more. I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I heard you but I had so much more to say,\u201d he wrote. \u201cI love you. I\u2019ll see you later.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tO\u2019Hara is survived by her husband Welch, sons Matthew and Luke, along with siblings Michael O\u2019Hara, Mary Margaret O\u2019Hara, Maureen Jolley, Marcus O\u2018Hara, Tom O\u2019Hara and Patricia Wallice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Catherine O\u2019Hara\u2019s cause of death has been determined.
