This year, on July 20 from noon to 5:00 p.m., families can make art, guided by guest artists and educators; participate in hands-on gallery activities; watch live performances and films; and more. All of this is in addition to, of course, complimentary ice cream from Fort Worth’s MELT Ice Cream (while supplies last).

If you and your family are wanting to create your own art while at the museum, there are artmaking activities like Abstract Pastel Patterns with Guest Artist Jamison LeBlanc, ink painting, and a special activity hosted by the Fort Worth Public Library.

“What I love about Family Festival is that it’s often a newly found opportunity for families and those curious about art to learn something new regardless of their age and experience with art,” said LeBlanc, an arts educator and returning Family Festival Guest Artist. “It has been so cool sharing my college-level expertise with parents and their children and seeing them attempt to make art with new techniques with historical references and getting to watch them learn and grow together at the same time. I also love getting to work with visitors one-on-one and personalizing the lesson to meet their own needs as an artist.”

“Creation Stations” take place in the galleries and include the themes Landscape Lounge with Guest Artist Kenya Diaz, Texture Treasure, Dynamic Duos, and Power Poses.

“The museum programming always feels really rooted in the Dallas-Fort Worth community by offering hands-on activities that are thoughtful and accessible to everyone,” said Diaz, a studio arts educator and returning Family Festival Guest Artist. “It is wonderful to see families connect to the museum and its collection in a creative way.”

ENJOY READING THE NEWS AGAIN

Discover refreshing, nonpartisan reporting on stories happening in your backyard.

“Story Corners” are interactive story times, offered in both English and Spanish; there will be live performances by Bandan Koro African Drum and Dance, and jazz by the Yeeun Kim Duo; short family films presented by The Reel House Foundation; and Outdoor Activity Baskets and Permanent Collection Book Baskets for the more independent young learners, whether they prefer to be outdoors or indoors respectively.
