It may feel too cold to think about baseball after a winter that has already delivered snow and frigid temperatures, but the high school season is nearly here.<\/p>\n

North Carolina high school<\/a> teams can begin play as early as Feb. 25, putting first pitch just over two weeks away.<\/p>\n

Last season delivered no shortage of storylines across the Wilmington area.<\/a> Laney captured its first league championship in 16 years and surged all the way to a state title game. Ashley spent much of the spring ranked No. 1 in the nation.<\/p>\n

Now, with a new wave of players ready to step into the spotlight, it is time for fans to weigh in.<\/p>\n

From now through Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 11:59 p.m., fans can vote among 23 nominees in the StarNews Preseason Baseball Player of the Year Poll.<\/p>\n
