Britney Spears<\/a> has sold the rights to her iconic music catalog, multiple sources confirmed to Rolling Stone.<\/p>\n

Primary Wave will now take over Spears\u2019 ownership share of her many hit songs, including \u201c\u2026 Baby One More Time,\u201d \u201cOops! \u2026 I Did It Again,\u201d \u201c(You Drive Me) Crazy,\u201d \u201cI\u2019m a Slave 4 U,\u201d \u201cLucky,\u201d \u201cI\u2019m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman,\u201d among many others.<\/p>\n

The deal, which was first reported by TMZ<\/a>, is said to have been inked on Dec. 30. It is not clear how much Spears sold her rights for, but a source told the outlet it was on par with Justin Bieber\u2019s reported $200 million deal<\/a> to sell his back catalog to Hipgnosis<\/a> Songs Capital in 2023.<\/p>\n

Rolling Stone has reached out to representatives for Spears and Primary Wave for further comment.<\/p>\n

Primary Wave has been in the business of snapping up catalogs from some of music\u2019s biggest names. Last March, it bought a 50 percent stake in The Notorious B.I.G.\u2019s estate<\/a>, and in the past has reached deals with the estates of Whitney Houston, Bob Marley, Prince<\/a>, and Cars leader Ric Ocasek. In 2020, Stevie Nicks sold her publishing rights to the company.<\/p>\n

Acquisition deals can be extremely lucrative for artists, allowing them to receive a significant payout and relieving them of the time-consuming responsibility of overseeing an entire estate and catalog of music.<\/p>\n

Spears, who was released from a controversial 13-year conservatorship in 2021, has not released a studio album since 2016\u2019s Glory. Although she recently announced<\/a> that she wouldn\u2019t perform in the United States again, Spears hasn\u2019t sworn off making new music. In 2022, she collaborated with Elton John for the single \u201cHold Me Closer,\u201d and in 2023 released \u201cMind Your Business\u201d<\/a> with Black Eyed Peas\u2019 will.i.am.<\/p>\n
