It is not clear how much Spears sold her rights for, but a source told the outlet it was on par with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/justin-bieber-sells-catalog-hipgnosis-1234651518\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Justin Bieber\u2019s reported $200 million deal;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Justin Bieber\u2019s reported $200 million deal<\/a> to sell his back catalog to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/hipgnosis\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Hipgnosis;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Hipgnosis<\/a> Songs Capital in 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Rolling Stone has reached out to representatives for Spears and Primary Wave for further comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Primary Wave has been in the business of snapping up catalogs from some of music\u2019s biggest names. Last March,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/mo-money-mo-product-notorious-195845903.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:it bought a 50 percent stake in The Notorious B.I.G.\u2019s estate;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> it bought a 50 percent stake in The Notorious B.I.G.\u2019s estate<\/a>, and in the past has reached deals with the estates of Whitney Houston, Bob Marley, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/pro\/news\/prince-estate-primary-wave-rights-1205102\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Prince;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Prince<\/a>, and Cars leader Ric Ocasek. In 2020, Stevie Nicks sold her publishing rights to the company.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Acquisition deals can be extremely lucrative for artists, allowing them to receive a significant payout and relieving them of the time-consuming responsibility of overseeing an entire estate and catalog of music.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Spears, who was released from a controversial 13-year conservatorship in 2021, has not released a studio album since 2016\u2019s Glory. Although she<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DTRWeFhgI0s\/?hl=en\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:recently announced;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"> recently announced<\/a> that she wouldn\u2019t perform in the United States again, Spears hasn\u2019t sworn off making new music.
