{"id":583822,"date":"2026-02-12T04:31:14","date_gmt":"2026-02-12T04:31:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/583822\/"},"modified":"2026-02-12T04:31:14","modified_gmt":"2026-02-12T04:31:14","slug":"cdc-issues-health-alert-after-virus-outbreak-hits-popular-honeymoon-destination","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/583822\/","title":{"rendered":"CDC issues health alert after virus outbreak hits popular honeymoon destination"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"USNDRYZBMJEQFG2IO27KWIWWEI\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwnc.cdc.gov\/travel\/notices\/level2\/chikungunya-seychelles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/wwwnc.cdc.gov\/travel\/notices\/level2\/chikungunya-seychelles\">health advisory<\/a> has been issued for a group of islands famous for their white-sand beaches, crystal-clear turquoise waters and granite rock formations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"GADVGGERLFAPTEMWDHOTDUDABM\">The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is urging travelers to Seychelles to practice enhanced precautions after a chikungunya outbreak was confirmed earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"USPHWBPNKBAVTMKNUCWYXGLO2M\">Spread by mosquitoes, the virus causes fever, severe joint pain, headache, rashes and fatigue with symptoms usually showing up three to seven days after a bite. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"PZIJ2QUL6BBGLK5S6RADAG7MUU\">\u201cSome can have severe joint pain for months to years following acute illness,\u201d the CDC said. \u201cDeath from chikungunya is rare.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"76N3CX6V2NHWVJ6NRJZMQIZ6YM\">Chikungunya outbreaks have occurred in countries in Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe, the Caribbean, and Indian and Pacific Oceans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ZARNZQD6NJH25NVLLNPJERR3ZQ\">Travelers can protect themselves by using insect repellent, wearing long-sleeved shirts and pants, and staying in places with air conditioning or that have screens on the windows and doors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"LKNHTAOHXZEMLGLOTUDNCBP4EM\">Vaccination is recommended for travelers who are visiting an area with a chikungunya outbreak, such as Seychelles. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"PLASFDE57JHXFGY2RCYPRRQTFY\">The Seychelles consists of about 115 islands off the coast of East Africa.
