{"id":58518,"date":"2025-07-12T03:03:22","date_gmt":"2025-07-12T03:03:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/58518\/"},"modified":"2025-07-12T03:03:22","modified_gmt":"2025-07-12T03:03:22","slug":"eric-adams-lawsuit-seeking-to-overrule-nyc-campaign-finance-board-thrown-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/58518\/","title":{"rendered":"Eric Adams lawsuit seeking to overrule NYC Campaign Finance Board thrown out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A federal judge has tossed Mayor Eric Adams\u2019 lawsuit seeking to overrule the Campaign Finance Board\u2019s decision to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/05\/28\/us-news\/mayor-eric-adams-sues-nyc-finance-board-over-denial-of-3-4-million-in-matching-funds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">withhold millions of dollars in matching funds<\/a>\u00a0for his re-election bid.<\/p>\n<p>Although a defeat legally, the ruling could prove to be a boon for Hizzoner\u2019s independent bid for mayor \u2014 with the Brooklyn judge slapping down the board\u2019s ability to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/04\/02\/us-news\/nyc-mayor-eric-adams-historic-corruption-case-dismissed-as-judge-sides-with-trump-doj\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">reference his now-dismissed historic indictment<\/a>\u00a0as cause for withholding funds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Board\u2019s attempt to shift the burden of proving his innocence to Mayor Adams is inappropriate and goes against the centuries-old American legal principle that presumes the criminal defendant\u2019s innocence until proven guilty,\u201d wrote Judge Nicholas Garaufis.<\/p>\n<p>The judge in the case said the CFB\u2019s use of the indictment against Adams was \u2018inappropriate.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Adams was denied taxpayer-funded matching funds for his re-election run back in December, while\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/09\/26\/us-news\/read-eric-adams-full-indictment-as-hizzoner-becomes-first-sitting-nyc-mayor-to-be-charged-by-grand-jury\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">battling a criminal indictment for allegedly accepting bribes<\/a>\u00a0in the form of campaign donations and free or heavily discounted travel perks\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/05\/09\/us-news\/eric-adams-unsealed-documents-shed-new-light-on-how-nyc-mayor-wanted-turkey-to-fund-reelection-campaign-with-missed-detail-from-original-indictment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">in exchange for political favors<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That case was tossed after months of Adams cozying up to President Trump and those in his orbit.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Dale Ho noted in his dismissal that he did not rule on the merits of the case.<\/p>\n<p>Last December, Mayor Adams was denied matching funds for his re-election bid. Christopher Sadowski<\/p>\n<p>The latest ruling now requires Adams and his campaign to respond to the CFB for inquiries along with getting paperwork on time for matching funds.
