{"id":58706,"date":"2025-07-12T04:42:10","date_gmt":"2025-07-12T04:42:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/58706\/"},"modified":"2025-07-12T04:42:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-12T04:42:10","slug":"john-goodman-hasnt-spoken-to-roseanne-barr-in-7-or-8-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/58706\/","title":{"rendered":"John Goodman hasn&#8217;t spoken to Roseanne Barr in &#8216;7 or 8 years&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> <a href=\"https:\/\/ew.com\/person\/john-goodman\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">John Goodman<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/ew.com\/person\/roseanne-barr\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Roseanne Barr<\/a> haven&#8217;t exactly kept in touch since their days playing a married couple on <a href=\"https:\/\/ew.com\/roseanne\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"3\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Roseanne<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_3-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> In fact, Goodman said in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/john-goodman-interview-career-1236309532\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"externalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> that he doesn&#8217;t think he&#8217;s spoken to Barr &#8220;for about seven or eight years.&#8221; That time frame would line up with their popular, briefly revived sitcom\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ew.com\/tv\/2018\/05\/29\/abc-cancels-roseanne\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">being canceled at ABC in 2018<\/a>,\u00a0hours after <a href=\"https:\/\/ew.com\/tv\/2018\/05\/29\/roseanne-tweet-apology-obama\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"3\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Barr posted a\u00a0racist tweet<\/a> about Valerie Jarrett, the former senior adviser to President Obama. Within three weeks, the Roseanne reboot was overhauled without Barr \u2014 whose titular character was killed off \u2014 and rechristened\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ew.com\/the-conners\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"4\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Conners<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_5-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> When asked by THR if he&#8217;d spoken to Barr about the Conners finale, in which his character goes to visit her character&#8217;s grave, Goodman said, &#8220;No. I&#8217;d rather doubt if she wants to talk to me. We haven&#8217;t talked for about seven or eight years.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_7-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> That said, he has nothing but fond memories of their time playing Dan and Roseanne Conner together, first in nine seasons of Roseanne&#8217;s original run from 1988 to 1997, and then again in the revived 10th season.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_11-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> &#8220;We hit it off from jump street. She made me laugh, and I made her laugh, and wow, it was so much fun,&#8221; Goodman recalled. &#8220;We&#8217;d get so many viewers for the show back then \u2014 20, 30 million people. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_21-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> At the time, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/culture\/tv-radio\/article\/the-magazine-interview-the-actor-john-goodman-on-the-roseanne-barr-racism-row-his-favourite-film-roles-and-his-battle-with-alcoholism-2jz59f90h?region=global\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"externalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Goodman defended Barr<\/a>, saying, &#8220;I&#8217;ll put it this way, I was surprised at the [network&#8217;s] response. And that&#8217;s probably all I should say about it.&#8221; He did add, &#8220;I know for a fact that she&#8217;s not a racist.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p> Roseanne Barr and John Goodman on the first season of &#8216;Roseanne&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>ABC Photo Archives\/Disney General Entertainment Content via Getty<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_24-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> At the Monte-Carlo Television Festival in 2023, Goodman addressed his prior support for his former costar, saying he had no regrets. &#8220;I remember attending some kind of junket where they saw the pilot, and then the interviews, and it just turned into an attack,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2023\/tv\/global\/john-goodman-roseanne-barr-the-conners-the-righteous-gemstones-1235653963\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"externalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">he told Variety<\/a>. &#8220;It made me really uncomfortable witnessing them go after Roseanne.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_26-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> He continued, &#8220;Yeah, I felt bad for her. And then, yeah\u2026 I just feel terrible about the whole thing. You know, we had a great time. And I love her. She&#8217;s just her own person.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_28-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Even so, when asked if he would work with her again, he was hesitant. &#8220;I don&#8217;t know,&#8221; he replied. &#8220;If she&#8217;d like to\u2026 I just don&#8217;t know. I miss her.
