PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport has launched TSA PreCheck Touchless ID, a new facial recognition technology that allows travelers with PreCheck to go through security without showing identification.<\/p>\n
The technology launched in Terminal 3 and is expanding to Terminal 4 over the next two weeks, according to TSA officials.<\/p>\n
How TSA PreCheck Touchless works<\/p>\n
Travelers must first enroll through a participating airline\u2019s website by providing passport information and personal details. When checking in, eligible passengers will see \u201cTSA Touchless PreCheck\u201d printed on their boarding pass.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou walk right up, it takes your photo, you leave,\u201d said TSA\u2019s Daniel Velez.<\/p>\n
The dedicated touchless lane is designed to make security screenings faster for PreCheck holders. There is no additional cost beyond the existing PreCheck fee.<\/p>\n
Terminal 4 rollout schedule<\/p>\n
The touchless technology will be installed at Terminal 4 checkpoints beginning Monday, Feb. 16, starting with the A checkpoint. The B checkpoint will receive the technology Feb. 19, followed by the D checkpoint Feb. 23 and the C checkpoint Feb. 26.<\/p>\n
\u201cRight now, we\u2019re at about 18 airports, and we\u2019re expanding that to 60 by the end of March, so we\u2019re pretty busy installing those all over the country,\u201d Velez said. \u201cIt\u2019s important for us to make sure we have the latest and greatest technology at all of our airports.\u201d<\/p>\n
Privacy and data protection<\/p>\n
The TSA said images are not shared with other agencies. Photos and personal data are deleted within 24 hours of a passenger\u2019s scheduled departure.<\/p>\n
The agency recommends travelers still carry identification when flying, even with PreCheck Touchless capability.<\/p>\n
