{"id":588199,"date":"2026-02-14T00:15:17","date_gmt":"2026-02-14T00:15:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/588199\/"},"modified":"2026-02-14T00:15:17","modified_gmt":"2026-02-14T00:15:17","slug":"humble-city-council-selects-replacement-for-vacant-council-seat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/588199\/","title":{"rendered":"Humble City Council selects replacement for vacant council seat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tA former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityofhumbletx.gov\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Humble City Council<\/a> member and city employee was chosen to fill the vacant council seat <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/gview?embedded=true&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fgranicus_production_attachments.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fhumble-tx%2F0d6af41ed8f517322da1aef4c27d94380.pdf&amp;utm_source=email\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Feb. 12<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How it happened<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mark Martin was chosen by Humble City Council to fill Place 1, which was left vacant following the death of council member Charles \u201cAndy\u201d Curry on <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/houston\/lake-houston-humble-kingwood\/government\/2026\/01\/12\/humble-city-council-member-dies-after-serving-city-for-27-years\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dec. 15<\/a>. City leaders <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/houston\/lake-houston-humble-kingwood\/government\/2026\/01\/23\/humble-city-council-accepting-applications-to-fill-vacant-seat\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">accepted applications<\/a> for the seat from Jan. 23-30, as previously reported by Community Impact.<\/p>\n<p>Five people applied to fill Place 1, and they were each interviewed by City Council before Martin was chosen, Mayor Norman Funderberk said during the Feb. 12 Humble City Council meeting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we learned more about each of these individuals, of course we wanted to really drill down and learn about their relevant knowledge and experience,\u201d Funderburk said. \u201cWe wanted to assess their preparedness, and specifically, with that whole process, just [have] a good feeling for their appointment readiness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>City law allows the council to either hold a special election or appoint a replacement council member, as previously reported.
