International fans of the long-running animated series can still stream\u00a0South Park\u00a0specials on Paramount+ and watch the show on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/comedy-central\/\" id=\"auto-tag_comedy-central_1\" data-tag=\"comedy-central\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Comedy Central<\/a>, however.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe news of the expired international license comes just days after it was announced that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/south-park-creators-blast-skydance-paramount-merger-1236304601\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">season 27 premiere of South Park has been pushed back<\/a> two weeks to July 23 from its original date of July 9 amid a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/business\/business-news\/south-park-creators-threaten-legal-action-deal-1236297367\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">streaming rights battle<\/a> between the show\u2019s creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone\u00a0and Comedy Central\u2019s parent company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/paramount-global\/\" id=\"auto-tag_paramount-global_1\" data-tag=\"paramount-global\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paramount Global<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tA <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SouthPark\/status\/1940397871859384432?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1940397871859384432%7Ctwgr%5Eeb6dd0e892bdfaebc73a3f934dc5d3e8abb8c27d%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.hollywoodreporter.com%2Ftv%2Ftv-news%2Fsouth-park-creators-blast-skydance-paramount-merger-1236304601%2F\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">tweet posted<\/a> to\u00a0South Park\u2019s official X profile\u00a0following the July 2 announcement read: \u201cIn response to the press release from Comedy Central about the change in premiere date for\u00a0South Park\u00a0Trey Parker &amp; Matt Stone said \u2014 \u2018This merger is a shitshow and it\u2019s fucking up\u00a0South Park. We are at the studio working on new episodes and we hope the fans get to see them somehow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/business\/business-news\/south-park-creators-threaten-legal-action-deal-1236297367\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">As first reported by\u00a0The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> last month, Parker and Stone threatened legal action against Paramount, accusing incoming president Jeff Shell of interfering with their contract negotiations with Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) and Netflix. Shell, currently chairman of sports and media at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/redbird-capital\/\" id=\"auto-tag_redbird-capital_1\" data-tag=\"redbird-capital\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Redbird Capital<\/a> Partners, is set to take the reins once the merger between David Ellison\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/skydance\/\" id=\"auto-tag_skydance_1\" data-tag=\"skydance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Skydance<\/a> and Paramount Global is complete. The deal, originally set to close on July 6, is currently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/business\/business-news\/fcc-paramount-skydance-deal-conditions-1236312017\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">awaiting Federal Communications Commission approval<\/a> to transfer Paramount\u2019s broadcast licenses to Skydance. On <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/business\/business-news\/fcc-paramount-skydance-deal-conditions-1236312017\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Monday<\/a>, representatives for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and its Hollywood Local 399 and the Center for American Rights\u00a0met with the FCC to discuss concessions and emphasize their \u201ccommitment to explaining and applauding a final license package that protects the interests of workers, consumers, and investors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tParamount currently has two years left on its $900 million deal for\u00a0the digital rights to South Park. In the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/business\/business-news\/south-park-creators-threaten-legal-action-deal-1236297367\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">June 21 letter <\/a>written by an attorney for Parker and Stone\u2019s entertainment company Park County, Shell is said to have asked potential bidders to modify certain terms of their offers in a \u201cmanner calculated to benefit Paramount at the expense\u201d of the company, specifically pointing to Shell urging WBD to give Paramount+ an exclusive 12-month window for new episodes of the show and to shorten the term of the deal from 10 to five years. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cWe hereby demand that you, Redbird, and Skydance immediately cease your interference,\u201d the letter reads. \u201cIf these activities continue, we will have no choice but to act to both protect our rights and discharge any obligations we may have to the public.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIn response, a spokesperson for Skydance released a statement which read, \u201cUnder the terms of the transaction agreement, Skydance has the right to approve material contracts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tSouth Park\u00a0first debuted on Comedy Central on Aug. 13, 1997.\u00a0The season 26 finale episode \u201cSpring Break\u201d aired on Mar. 29, 2023, with three specials following between October 2023 and May 2024.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Streamers outside of the U.S. can no longer access South Park on Paramount+.
