Rome, N.Y. – A person and a dog died in a fire in Rome on Friday night, firefighters said.<\/p>\n
Firefighters arrived at the three-story building at 305 East Dominic St. at around 6 p.m., where they saw heavy fire on the second floor and heavy smoke throughout the building, according to Deputy Chief Tim Riley of the Rome Fire Department.<\/p>\n
The fire had originated in a second-floor bedroom, Riley said.<\/p>\n
A person who entered the building to save their dogs died. One dog died in the fire; another survived, he said.<\/p>\n
The building sustained heavy fire damage on the second floor. Two occupants were assisted by the Red Cross.<\/p>\n
Firefighters were on the scene until 10:30 p.m. A cause has not yet been determined.<\/p>\n
