{"id":591877,"date":"2026-02-15T14:14:12","date_gmt":"2026-02-15T14:14:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/591877\/"},"modified":"2026-02-15T14:14:12","modified_gmt":"2026-02-15T14:14:12","slug":"china-expands-oversight-of-major-banks-amid-property-sector-risks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/591877\/","title":{"rendered":"China expands oversight of major banks amid property sector risks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>China has expanded its list of domestic systemically important banks (D-SIBs) \u2013 institutions subject to tighter regulatory standards \u2013 as authorities step up macroprudential oversight to safeguard financial stability amid high exposure to <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/business\/article\/3342060\/bleak-start-2026-chinas-property-sector-sales-declines-accelerate?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">property sector debt<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The D-SIB list now stands at 21 institutions, up from 19 when it was first published in 2021. It includes six state-owned commercial banks, 10 joint-stock commercial banks and five urban lenders, accounting for the vast majority of the country\u2019s financial assets.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cWe will continuously strengthen the supplementary supervision of systemically important banks and promote their safe, sound operation,\u201d the central bank and the regulatory body said in a joint online statement.<\/p>\n<p>The expanded list came as Beijing doubles down on efforts to <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/economy\/china-economy\/article\/3302312\/chinas-central-bank-create-more-tools-shore-economy?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">shore up<\/a> the banking system, which remains on alert amid a prolonged property market downturn.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">So far, Chinese banks have not reported a sharp rise in bad assets. The non-performing loan ratio of commercial banks stood at 1.5 per cent at the end of 2025, unchanged from a year earlier, according to NFRA data.
