NT Police have arrested two men and three boys after an alleged aggravated assault outside Alice Springs Hospital in the early hours of this morning, claiming the group was brandishing bladed weapons.<\/p>\n

Authorities said officers attended the scene multiple times on Sunday, initially responding to “reports of a fight taking place outside the hospital, with one male armed with a “machete” just before 5am, but the group dispersed before police arrived.<\/p>\n

An hour later, authorities responded to reports that a 19-year-old woman had been assaulted outside the hospital and then “chased inside by offenders armed with machetes”.<\/p>\n

Territorians terrorised by machetes call for weapons to be banned<\/a><\/p>\n

There are growing calls for the NT government to ban machetes and crossbows as residents share horror stories of being targeted in their own homes.<\/p>\n

NT Police said the woman and several of her friends sought refuge inside a security office, “where security staff secured the door”.<\/p>\n

“It is alleged the offenders then brandished machetes in the public waiting area before fleeing the scene in a white Holden Commodore,” police said in a statement.<\/p>\n

“The white Commodore was later sighted and pursued north of town; however, the pursuit was terminated due to safety considerations.<\/p>\n

“Earlier in the morning, police had responded to several reports of the same white Holden Commodore sedan driving around the Alice Springs CBD with occupants allegedly armed with machetes.”<\/p>\n

According to authorities, a police dog tracked down the car in bushland north of town at 9:15am.<\/p>\n
