{"id":59373,"date":"2025-07-12T10:48:24","date_gmt":"2025-07-12T10:48:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/59373\/"},"modified":"2025-07-12T10:48:24","modified_gmt":"2025-07-12T10:48:24","slug":"to-fight-ice-city-council-aims-to-let-street-vendors-run-wild","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/59373\/","title":{"rendered":"To fight ICE, City Council aims to let street vendors run wild"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So obsessed is the City Council with protecting all illegal migrants from <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/11\/us-news\/mayor-adams-slams-nyc-council-push-to-probe-nypd-over-alleged-sanctuary-city-violations\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ICE enforcement<\/a>, it just voted to decriminalize illegal street vending lest any border-jumpers get arrested for it and so face an elevated risk of deportation.<\/p>\n<p>Unless the mayor vetoes the bill and somehow gets council members to uphold him, violating the city\u2019s vending laws will no longer bring misdemeanor charges (and the possibility of three months in jail) as of Dec. 31. <\/p>\n<p>Vending with no license or permit will only be a non-criminal violation \u2014 just another ticket.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCriminalizing <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/02\/24\/us-news\/nyc-council-bill-would-let-street-vendors-hawk-in-middle-of-sidewalks\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">street vendors <\/a>for simplifying trying to survive wastes City resources and fails to improve public safety,\u201d whined a City Council flack.<\/p>\n<p>So get set for an explosion of sleazy characters trying to sell cheap knockoffs, stolen goods and other garbage on blocks with heavy foot traffic, especially tourists and other likely suckers.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tMore From\t\t\t\t\t\t\tPost Editorial Board<\/p>\n<p>And yet another drain on brick-and-mortar stores, which actually pay taxes \u2026 until they go out of business.<\/p>\n<p>Expect <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/11\/24\/us-news\/brooklyn-restaurant-at-center-of-illegal-migrant-driven-food-vending-scheme\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">rogue food vending<\/a> to pop up too; lots of public nuisances will exploit this new loophole.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s next?
