Former Rutgers University Scarlet Knights combo guard Dylan Harper, the first of the San Antonio Spurs’ two lottery picks in the 2025 NBA draft, sat out what would have been his Las Vegas Summer League debut Thursday \u2014 an eventual 111-70 blowout of the Philadelphia 76ers \u2014 with a groin injury.<\/p>\n

San Antonio’s other rookie lottery selection, No. 14 pick Carter Bryant out of Arizona, five points on 1-of-6 shooting from the floor (1-of-4 from distance) and 2-of-2 shooting from the foul line, five rebounds, two assists, three blocks and a steal in 19 minutes of action. Encouragingly, he notched a +17 plus-minus.<\/p>\n

Small forward David Jones-Garcia led the Spurs with a game-high 24 points while shooting 9-of-12 from the field (4-of-5 from deep) and 2-of-3 from the charity stripe. He also grabbed five boards, swiped four steals, and passed for three dishes.<\/p>\n

According to Tim Reynolds of The Associated Press, San Antonio anticipates that Harper will suit up for the first time in Las Vegas with San Antonio on Saturday, in a clash against the only player drafted ahead of him, No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg of the Dallas Mavericks.<\/p>\n

Harper, son of five-time NBA champion Ron Harper Sr., has already been using his tenure in San Antonio to learn from some of its Hall of Fame legends.<\/p>\n

Per Marc J. Spears of Andscape<\/a>, Harper revealed that former All-Star shooting guard Manu Ginobili has served as Harper’s most helpful mentor among the San Antonio alums so far.<\/p>\n

\u201cI talk to him the most,\u201d Harper said. \u201cMore about just the game and the speed and just how he adapted to it from a FIBA standpoint to coming over here. What was his biggest changes being a player and being professional outside of basketball? What kept you locked in? Just all little things I think that every NBA player goes through.\u201d<\/p>\n
