JACKSONVILLE, Fla.<\/strong> \u2013 City officials issued a permit Monday to demolish the closed Museum of Science & History (MOSH) on Jacksonville\u2019s Southbank, according to our news partners at the Jacksonville Daily Record.<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n

Now that the city has given the green light, contractor ELEV8 Demolition of Jacksonville can take down the four-story, 83,299-square-foot building at 1025 Museum Circle at a project cost of $835,000.<\/p>\n

ELEV8 intends to demolish the structure and foundation and remove the debris.<\/p>\n

The city owns the 7.8 acres where the museum building was developed in 1968.<\/p>\n

MOSH was founded in 1941 and moved to the Southbank building in 1969.<\/p>\n

In September of last year, MOSH closed its doors to prepare for a massive transformation and relocation project.<\/p>\n

The museum, which has inspired generations of Jacksonville residents, will remain closed until 2028 when it reopens in a dramatically expanded facility on the Northbank.<\/p>\n
