(Supplied: Parliament of Western Australia)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Ms Lai described herself as the &#8220;first Australian woman of Chinese heritage&#8221; to be elected to the WA parliament in her maiden speech.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;Ms Lai took offence, believing the comment to be racist,&#8221; the leader of the lower house, David Michael said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"David Michael stands up at a press conference in a suit.
