It was revealed on Tuesday that Texas<\/a> had canceled its home-and-home series against\u00a0Arizona State<\/a><\/strong>, which was scheduled to take place over the 2032 and 2033 seasons.<\/p>\n

The games will not be rescheduled.\u00a0Arizona State<\/strong>\u00a0announced Tuesday morning<\/a>\u00a0that it would instead be facing former Pac-12 foe\u00a0Stanford<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0in a non-conference home-and-home series. That is scheduled to take place over the 2031 and 2032 seasons.<\/p>\n

On3\u2019s Andy Staples<\/strong> was NOT happy with the news of yet another home-and-home series between two strong programs coming to an end. Instead of seeing two presumably great games between Texas<\/strong> and Arizona State<\/strong>, the Longhorns will likely add a \u2018cupcake\u2019 game.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the part I\u2019m more worried about for people in general,\u201d Staples said regarding Texas<\/strong> getting out of the Arizona State<\/strong> series. \u201cI don\u2019t think consumers should ever advocate for a crappier product, yet certain college football fanbases (do). Like Nebraska<\/a><\/strong> last year, like Alabama<\/a><\/strong> right now, and Texas<\/strong> here seems to be perfectly fine with someone shoveling more crap their way instead of a good thing they were going to get.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Texas<\/strong>\/Arizona State<\/strong> series is just the latest series between P4 non-conference opponents to be slashed. In recent weeks, games between Mississippi State<\/a><\/strong>\/Texas Tech<\/a><\/strong>, NC State<\/a><\/strong>\/South Carolina<\/a><\/strong>, and Arizona State<\/strong>\/Virginia Tech<\/a><\/strong> were canceled as well.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead at\u00a0Texas<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Arizona State<\/strong>\u2018s future schedules, the Longhorns are currently scheduled to face non-conference juggernauts\u00a0Ohio State<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(2026),\u00a0Michigan<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(2027), and\u00a0Notre Dame<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(2028 and 2029) in future seasons.\u00a0Arizona State<\/strong>\u00a0is slated to face\u00a0Texas A&M<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(2026 and 2027),\u00a0LSU<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(2029 and 2030), and now\u00a0Stanford<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0over the next few seasons (2031 and 2032).<\/p>\n

Texas\/Arizona State clashes would have marked rematch of 2025 Peach Bowl<\/p>\n

The home-and-home would have marked a rematch of the 2025 Peach Bowl, which\u00a0Texas<\/strong>\u00a0won 39-31 in 2OT. No. 4 seed\u00a0Arizona State<\/strong>, led by quarterback\u00a0Sam Leavitt<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and running back\u00a0Cam Skattebo<\/a><\/strong>, used a 16-point fourth quarter to take the Longhorns to OT in their first-ever College Football Playoff appearance.<\/p>\n

Both teams scored in OT, leading to a second OT.\u00a0Texas<\/strong>\u00a0scored first via a 25-yard touchdown pass from\u00a0Quinn Ewers<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0to\u00a0Gunnar Helm<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(and successfully converted the 2-point conversion), and intercepted Leavitt\u2019s next pass to seal the win. The Longhorns eventually fell to eventual National Champion\u00a0Ohio State<\/strong>\u00a028-14 in the Cotton Bowl Classic (CFP Semifinals).<\/p>\n

Texas<\/strong>\u00a0is coming off its third consecutive 10-win season (first time since 2001-2009), while\u00a0Arizona State<\/strong>\u00a0has won at least eight games in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2013-2014. Texas, however, returns 2026 Heisman hopeful\u00a0Arch Manning<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and hauled in superstar wide receiver\u00a0Cam Coleman<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(Auburn<\/a><\/strong>) from the Transfer Portal.\u00a0Kenny Dillingham<\/a><\/strong>\u2018s program lost\u00a0Sam Leavitt<\/strong>\u00a0to\u00a0Lane Kiffin<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0LSU<\/strong>, but hauled in SEC All-Freshman Team selection quarterback\u00a0Cutter Boley<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0from\u00a0Kentucky<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n
