{"id":600711,"date":"2026-02-19T09:27:13","date_gmt":"2026-02-19T09:27:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/600711\/"},"modified":"2026-02-19T09:27:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-19T09:27:13","slug":"sony-joins-studio-protest-against-seedance-2-0-infringement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/600711\/","title":{"rendered":"Sony Joins Studio Protest Against Seedance 2.0 Infringement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/sony\/\" id=\"auto-tag_sony\" data-tag=\"sony\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sony<\/a> Pictures has joined the outcry against <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/seedance\/\" id=\"auto-tag_seedance\" data-tag=\"seedance\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Seedance<\/a> 2.0, the Chinese video platform that has united Hollywood studios in their condemnation of AI-generated copyright infringement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn a cease and desist letter sent Wednesday, the studio demanded that <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/bytedance\/\" id=\"auto-tag_bytedance\" data-tag=\"bytedance\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ByteDance<\/a> immediately remove its valuable IP \u2014 including \u201cBreaking Bad\u201d and the \u201cSpider-Verse\u201d films \u2014 from the Seedance AI training data.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cGiven the egregious nature of Seedance 2.0\u2019s outputs and the complete lack of observable copyright guardrails at launch, SPE can only conclude that ByteDance\u2019s infringements are willful,\u201d wrote Jill Ratner, general counsel of Sony Pictures Entertainment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSony is the fifth studio to lodge a protest directly with ByteDance, following similar letters from Disney, Paramount, Warner Bros. and Netflix. ByteDance has sought to reassure copyright holders that it will strengthen its measures to prevent copyright infringement and misuse of actors\u2019 likenesses, but that has not quelled the protest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cSPE will not tolerate delayed or half-baked measures,\u201d Ratner wrote. \u201cPlease contact us immediately to confirm that effective, robust, and meaningful guardrails are being implemented forthwith.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSeedance 2.0 AI clips have circulated on social media since last week, with users taking the opportunity to stage superhero fight scenes and create alternate endings of TV shows like \u201cGame of Thrones\u201d and \u201cStranger Things.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe Motion Picture Association \u2014 which represents all five studios, plus Amazon and Universal Studios \u2014 was first out of the gate with its condemnation on Feb. 12, when CEO Charles Rivkin called on ByteDance to immediately cease its infringement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tOn Wednesday, Netflix threatened \u201cimmediate litigation\u201d if the company did not comply.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tDisney, Warner Bros. and Universal are also pursuing litigation against Midjourney and MiniMax over their AI video models. Those cases are at the earliest stages. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tMiniMax, like ByteDance, is headquartered in China, and the plaintiffs have had difficulty serving the defendants.
