PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell on Thursday announced indictments against three suspects over crimes against law enforcement that happened on the same night, just hours apart.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors said Darelle Belle, 51, was charged with 21 counts of aggravated assault after allegedly shooting a DPS trooper, and hurting three others<\/a> during a SWAT operation in central Phoenix on Feb. 5.<\/p>\n Belle was also charged with one count of unlawful discharge of a firearm and three counts of misconduct involving weapons, Mitchell said.<\/p>\n The county attorney also announced the indictment against Valarie Marie Corona<\/a>, 39, who was accused of pointing a gun at Phoenix police in Maryvale just hours earlier. Detectives said they were working to serve a search warrant in connection with a homicide case.<\/p>\n Prosecutors said Corona is charged with two counts of aggravated assault. They expressed concern about her bond amount, ultimately set at $25,000, after the county attorney\u2019s office wanted Corona held on a $1 million cash-only bond.<\/p>\n \u201cOne of my priorities as county attorney has been to fight for meaningful bond amounts, especially in cases involving repeat offenders, violence, and weapons,\u201d Mitchell said in a news conference. \u201cToo often, people are arrested and released before the officer who took them to jail finishes his shift. And we\u2019ve got to stop this revolving door.\u201d<\/p>\n On that same night, authorities said Gabriel Leon shot at Chandler police while running away following a traffic stop<\/a>, prompting officers to return fire.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen they stopped the truck, Gabriel Leon took off running, firing a shot into the air while doing so. The chase continued for a few blocks before it ended with an officer involved shooting,\u201d Mitchell said. \u201cLeon is indicted on one count of aggravated assault, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and misconduct involving weapons.\u201d<\/p>\n This is a breaking news story.
