When \u201cMadagascar \u2013 A Musical Adventure JR\u201d hits the stage, it won\u2019t just be a quick trip from New York to the wild.<\/p>\n
According to a press release, it will be an energetic, high-adventure escape powered by young performers from across greater Phoenix.<\/p>\n
Among those performers is 9-year-old Paradise Valley resident, Nina De La Chevrotiere, a fourth grader at Cherokee Elementary School. De La Chevrotiere is part of the show\u2019s featured ensemble and said her favorite song is the signature number \u201cMove It, Move It.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201c\u2018Madagascar JR.\u2019 is the perfect mix of comedy, music and movement,\u201d said director Joycelin Jacobs-Schwartz in the press release. \u201cIt\u2019s a big, bright adventure that showcases what young performers can do when you give them a story this fun. Audiences are going to be amazed by the talent on that stage.\u201d<\/p>\n
Presented by Greasepaint Youtheatre, \u201cMadagascar JR.\u201d brings the beloved DreamWorks story to the stage in a fast-paced musical that leans into physical comedy and movement.<\/p>\n

For De La Chevrotiere, the production is also a chance to continue building her growing theater experience. She has performed with youth theaters in both Phoenix and Montreal, Canada, but says Greasepaint stands out from the rest. \u201cMadagascar JR.\u201d is her second production with the company, and she credits the team for treating young performers like professionals, offering clear, role-specific direction that helps every actor shine.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think everyone will like when King Julien is introduced to the audience by coming onto the stage dancing,\u201d said Nina. \u201cIt is my favorite scene and it\u2019s so funny!\u201d<\/p>\n
Behind the scenes, the production is guided by Jacobs-Schwartz along with music director Mary Ellen Loose, choreographer Olivia Feldman, assistant choreographer Ava Siedensticker and stage manager Kris Crane.<\/p>\n
\u201cMadagascar \u2013 A Musical Adventure JR.\u201d runs Feb. 20 to March 1 at Greasepaint Youtheatre, located at 7020 E. 2nd St. in Scottsdale. Performances are scheduled at 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. on Sundays. An ASL-interpreted performance will take place at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28, featuring interpreters provided by ASL Impact.<\/p>\n
