Eileen Gu<\/a> playfully dissed JD Vance<\/a>\u2019s criticism of her at the Winter Olympics on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Responding to outrage over the U.S.-born freestyle ski star competing for China in her second straight Olympics, the vice president said recently<\/a>, \u201cI certainly think that somebody who grew up in the United States of America, who benefited from our education system, from the freedoms and liberties that make this country a great place, I would hope that they want to compete with the United States of America.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gu, an international celebrity and model who has won two silver medals in the Milan Cortina Games after winning two golds and a silver at Beijng in 2022, has been a lightning rod for judgment from often-conservative naysayers.<\/p>\n

Ex-NBA star Enes Kanter Freedom said on Fox News<\/a> this week that Gu was a \u201ctraitor\u201d<\/a> siding with an \u201cauthoritarian regime\u201d after host Laura Ingraham painted her as an ingrate who aligns with the communists.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo many athletes compete for a different country,\u201d Gu, whose mother is from China, said, according to USA Today. \u201cPeople only have a problem with me doing it because they kind of lump China into this monolithic entity, and they just hate China. So it\u2019s not really about what they think it\u2019s about.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd also, because I win. Like if I wasn\u2019t doing well, I think that they probably wouldn\u2019t care as much, and that\u2019s OK for me.
