This season, former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is starting a new chapter of his NFL<\/a> career. As he embarks on this new journey, the former top-ten pick is projected to land a sizable role.<\/p>\n

Midway through his sixth season with the franchise, the Giants decided to cut ties with Jones. This ended an extended experiment with him under center, posting a 24-44-1 record as a starter. Upon being waived, Jones finished out last season with the Minnesota Vikings. However, he never ended up seeing the field.<\/p>\n

In free agency, Jones decided to jump over to the AFC and sign with the Indianapolis Colts. This situation was the most beneficial for him, as there is a path to him securing a starting job again. During training camp, Jones will be battling for QB1 honors with Anthony Richardson.<\/p>\n

Before training camp officially gets underway, Moe Moton of Bleacher Report put out a column with a list of bold predictions. Among the things mentioned was Jones drastically outplaying Richardson and getting the Colts’ starting job.<\/p>\n

“In a bit of an upset, Daniel Jones will unseat incumbent starting quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. for the lead position,” Moton wrote<\/a>. “This offseason, the Indianapolis Colts signed Jones, who had a short stint on the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad and active roster after the New York Giants released him in November of last year. The seventh-year pro can turn this opportunity into a career rebirth. Jones will have a stronger supporting cast in Indianapolis than he had with the Giants in recent years.”<\/p>\n

The Colts drafted Richardson fourth overall in 2023 with the vision of him being the franchise’s long-term option under center. However, things have not worked out that way. He’s shown strong flashes, but has struggled to stay on the field consistently. Richardson appeared in just four games as a rookie, followed by making 11 starts last season.<\/p>\n

Richardson has a slight edge being the homegrown talent. That said, based on his extensive injury history, the QB competition should be wide open. As someone with years of experience as a starter already, Jones could easily emerge and officially jump Richardson on the depth chart.<\/p>\n

If he’s able to outperform Richardson in camp, Jones would have a golden opportunity to get his career back on track. Only time will tell if he can capitalize on his current situation.<\/p>\n
